Every time Trump says he is moving forward on tariffs, the stock market goes down. Every time he backs off, the stock market goes back up

That should tell you something !!

Your kidding yourself if you think that Trump's tariffs are going to make more money for the USA

Like most rich countries, 80% of America's workforce is in the services sector (including software, digital services, financial sector etc). In that sector, there is NO trade deficit with other countries. In fact, there is a huge trade surplus as America is a world leader in things like digital services.

Only around 10% of America's workforce is in the manufacturing sector. That's partly because labor costs are much lower in places like China and Mexico (where they work for peanuts) and partly because most manufacturing these days is done by robots. So all these multi billion dollar factories that Trump is going on about aren't going to create millions of jobs. They will mostly be run by robots and those few people that do work on the production lines will cost the company twice as much as they would in China or Mexico so the cost of the products they produce will go up

Meanwhile, your agricultural exports are being hammered by reciprocal tariffs all over the world. Beef, Chicken, Pork etc have all been hit with huge reciprocal tariffs

There's a reason we have had a global free trade economy for the last 80 years. It's because trade tariffs don't work !

We need to be bringing back manufacturing and that is what Trump is aiming to do with tariffs.

Our new prime minister is not acting a wimp he is answering back with retaliatory sanctions. It is unfortunate that our two countries such close allies and neighbours have to resort to this.

$6.6 Trillion wiped off the US stock market in the last 2 days https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/stock- ... 04-04-2025

JP Morgan has raised its odd of a recession to 60% - https://www.reuters.com/markets/jpmorga ... 025-04-04/

Federal Reserve Chairman warns of higher inflation - https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/04/econ ... index.html

Whichever way you look at it, this is a total mess and its exactly what economists predicted would happen if Trump went ahead with these tariffs

These wide ranging tariffs and counter tariffs are very concerning. If you look back at what caused the Great Depression of 1929 all the way to 1941, it was The Tariff Act of 1930 often referred to as the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act. In a nutshell tariffs are protectionist measures and go against the new world order established by the USA after WW2 to project economic power and also military power by creating a global economy. And guess what happened in 1941 World war 2.

There are eerie similarities today, protectionist tariffs, very high consumer debt, social and political extremist ideas.....

I hope Trump has thought this out because it looks dangerous.

Your absolutely right. The senate's own website refers to the 1930s Smoot-Hawley Tariff as "among the most catastrophic acts in congressional history. " https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/hi ... Tariff.htm

You'd have thought that if he wanted to crash China's economy then he would just tariff them directly. But by taking on the rest of the world at the same time, he's simply driving countries into China's arms. Canada, UK, EU, Australia, Japan and Korea are all seeking trade deals with China right now.

He even managed to tariff an uninhabited island off the coast of Antarctica https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ld-islands
