It is a very tough job I would not want. In the public spotlight 24/7 every decision you make can affect the whole country, no thanks and good luck to her.

I don't get how it works,if our president resigns the vice president becomes president, don't they have a vice prime minister over there who would become prime minister.

thats a very good point. We have a deputy prime minister but they dont automatically become prime minister, instead the party has to elect a new prime ministerXpressPete wrote: ↑September 13th, 2022, 6:34 pmI don't get how it works,if our president resigns the vice president becomes president, don't they have a vice prime minister over there who would become prime minister.
I think the American system is much better than ours, primarily because your presidents are limited to 2 terms. So in their second term, they dont have to worry about being re-elected and can get on with doing what needs to be done.
Over here, our politicians are constantly worried about staying in power and usually have to be dragged out of office kicking and screaming lol. Thats what happened to Thatcher, Theresa May and now Boris Johnson

Which in a way is not very democratic since a bunch of Conservatives voted a new party leader and prime minister. Where as in the US the president and vice president are on the same ticket and get voted in together. But that's how it is so who cares.

Yep another good point. We voted for Boris and what gives them (or anybody else) the right to overturn our vote ???TheButcher wrote: ↑September 13th, 2022, 6:52 pmWhich in a way is not very democratic since a bunch of Conservatives voted a new party leader and prime minister. And if you think about it, our system is wide open to abuse. Just look at our ex chancellor Rishi Sunak.
He knew full well that the minute he resigned it would bring down the government, giving him a chance to take over as prime minister. He even had his website up and running days before he resigned.
He wouldn't have done that if the job would automatically go to the deputy prime minister

Sunak resigned thinking he would be the next PM but honestly I don’t think the parties would pick a non-white leader.
A high profile Cabinet post yes not PM.

With all the drama over Ukraine and the rising cost of energy prices, it is a hard job to have right now.

They get an MP's salary and additional one for being pm. Give or take I can't remember the exact figures it's about £84,000 for being a minister and £80,000 for Prime Minister. He also gets a free flat at 10 Downing street, use of Chequers in Buckinghamshire to go on vacation.

It is the same here if the president resigns then the VP takes over.tacnet wrote: ↑September 6th, 2022, 9:29 amThe one thing that bugs me about all this is that, whatever you think of Boris Johnson - love him or hate him - WE THE BRITISH PEOPLE VOTED FOR HIM !!
What gives ANYBODY the right to overturn that vote !
I wish Liz Truss all the best but she certainly doesnt have the charisma that Boris had
