https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/trumps-tar ... ates-here/

"Ontario Premier Doug Ford says U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has dropped the plan to double tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel, and has committed to lowering U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff back down to 25 per cent.

This comes after Ontario agreed to pause a surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S., which dramatically upped the ante in Trump’s trade war with Canada Tuesday.

In a Truth Social post, the president wrote he will double the tariff on steel and aluminum, expected tomorrow, and said he will declare a “National Emergency on Electricity” in areas affected by Ontario’s 25 per cent surcharge. Later in the day, Ford said in a statement he would suspend the charge."

Doubling the tariffs seems to be off now
How come the Canadian PM is not the one adding tariffs a Premier is the one doing it.
I don't know about the Canadian side but its not President Trump who should be issuing tariffs on the USA side. That power rests with congress. The president can use executive powers to put in place tariffs in "Emergency Situations". That's why Trump keeps saying the Canadian tariffs are because of the "Fentanyl emergency" on the northern border even though USA customs own data says that less than 0.2% of the fentanyl coming into the USA comes via Canada.

Everybody knows that Trump is simply trying to collapse the Canadian economy so they will want to become the 51st state but congress would NEVER approve the use of tariffs for that. So Trump is simply bypassing them by using his emergency executive powers

And there in lies the problem. Instead of getting rational tariffs that are debated and approved in congress, we are getting a barrage of tariffs direct from Trump that he puts on one day and rolls back the next. The result is chaos !!

Placing tariffs on a country and trying to cripple their economy then saying join us we will remove the tariffs you will be better off without them is not a good way to get positive action. So a guy breaks into your house says to you sit there, I'm going to fuck your wife, once he is finished he says hey babe do you want to leave your husband come with me, I promise not to bang your ass hole again if you do.

It was Trump who signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) during his first term. It replaced NAFTA and, at the time, Trump claimed it was a great trade agreement.

Now he's trying to destroy it !

Is this what it is all about, placing tariffs to bring Canada and Mexico back and negotiate a new agreement in America's favour?

Trump does not care what your PM said,if he wants it he'll choke Canada financially until they ask to become our 51st state.

If they do become our 51st state there would be no tariffs.

Is he for real?

"Trump says Canada would have no tariffs as 51st state, as observers brace for trade war
Trump's 25% tariffs on Canadian goods, and 10% tariffs on Canadian energy set to take effect Tuesday"
Lumber they have it and we can use it

Trump put tariffs on Canada and says they should become the 51st state
