These tariffs will put pressure on Canada and they may think about joining us as our 51st state, you never know.

Canada and the U.S. have entered day three of a tariff-driven trade war that threatens to undermine the two countries’ deeply linked economies and raise consumer costs.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order instating 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian goods – with the exception of energy, which are tariffed at 10 per cent – came into effect. Canada since unveiled phase 1 of its response with its own 25 per cent tariffs on $30 billion in American imports.

On Thursday, Trump paused tariffs on goods covered by the the USMCA, the free trade agreement between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. "

Well this is good news the tariffs will be on hold for now on goods covered by the USMCA agreement that pres. Trump himself negotiated in his first term after he said the NAFTA agreement was not fair.

Trump says one reason is the illegal drugs entering the USA from Canada, who is manning the broder into the USA. It is not our border security it is the American officers, have them do a better job.

Watch out foreign minister school CNN's Amanpour on the topic.

He needs to give Canadians an incentive not just tariff relief if he wants them to join us.

"Published: March 11, 2025 at 6:59AM EDT
Donald Trump has hit against Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s surcharge on electricity, announcing a 50 per cent tariff on all Canadian steel and aluminum exports.

U.S. President Donald Trump says he now plans to double the tariffs on all steel and aluminum coming into the country from Canada starting Wednesday morning in response to retaliatory measures announced by Ontario earlier this week.

The U.S. President previously announced a 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminum but in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, he confirmed that he planned to double that to 50 per cent. Trump said the move was in direct response to Premier Doug Ford’s decision Monday to slap a 25 per cent surcharge on all electricity Ontario ships to the U.S.

“Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on “Electricity” coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th.” "

The tariff wars has started getting worse

"Ontario Premier Doug Ford says U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has dropped the plan to double tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel, and has committed to lowering U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff back down to 25 per cent.

This comes after Ontario agreed to pause a surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S., which dramatically upped the ante in Trump’s trade war with Canada Tuesday.

In a Truth Social post, the president wrote he will double the tariff on steel and aluminum, expected tomorrow, and said he will declare a “National Emergency on Electricity” in areas affected by Ontario’s 25 per cent surcharge. Later in the day, Ford said in a statement he would suspend the charge."

Doubling the tariffs seems to be off now

I honestly don't think Trump has a clue what he's doing. It's the uncertainty that is killing the economy. All this on again, off again means nobody in their right mind is investing in anything right now.

And it's not just the Canada and Mexico tariffs. We are only 3 weeks away from the April 2nd "Global Reciprocal Tariffs" he announced, and STILL nobody has any idea what countries and what products will be affected. The economic figures would look a lot worse but businesses are stockpiling to try and get ahead of the tariffs so it looks like companies are spending

The only thing that Trump DOES know is that, even though his approval rating has dropped dramatically, there is NOTHING anybody can do to stop him for at least the next 2 years when the mid terms come up
