That's a nice read, however, I'd like to chime in on some subjects:
1. Choose A Realistic Keyword Goal - If you've got a "Smaller" site, there's no need to limit your content only to low competition keywords, it goes without saying that they also bring in punitive traffic, so it really pays off to go for something a bit more competitive. Chances are if you're meticulous about how you execute the content, if it's well researched and written, you're going to rank well, regardless of your site's status.
8. Use A Content Optimization Tool - This is pretty much the biggest issue I have with the article. Content optimization tools are great at their core, and a perfectly solid starting point, but they're still inferior. Some writing assistance tools can draw a great outline for headers, even relevant terms, but doing those things manually pays out much better (if you know what you're doing). Sometimes you just need to follow basic guidelines of SEO and write the content naturally to outrank your competition. I wouldn't talk shit on tools if I haven't tried them, they're too restrictive and have some imaginary boundaries to what "Optimized" means, even Yoast. Don't get me wrong, it's not that you shouldn't use them at all, it's just that you shouldn't fully rely on such tools.
11. Avoid Long Sentences, Long Paragraphs, And Misspellings - This would be the extension of nr.8 thing. That's partly why I've mentioned Yoast (mainly because almost everyone uses it), it tries to stick your 20+ word sentences below 25%, which makes no sense in the grand scheme of things other than readability. The problem is, having 30, 40, even 50% of your text "too long" won't make much of a negative impact, if any, I've had such articles outperform fully optimized ones by a margin. Don't bang your head against the wall if you don't get all green lights, they're not that important.
Paragraphs are not inherently an SEO thing, maybe indirectly, but you want to format it for the reader so they have an easy time going through your content.
Misspellings are certainly to be avoided, and there are tools for that which I won't shit on because they're really valuable and pick up some mistakes that you naturally wouldn't. On the other hand, you can also make use of misspelled keywords, especially if they're in a popular niche, chances are you'll find uncontested ones that are begging to be picked up.
Sorry if I sound arrogant, just wanted to expand based on personal experience, it's a great article overall, cheers.
