The forum itself looks fine, its just not taking advantage of all the juicy keywords we are all posting here. There must be a massive database of topic titles on this forum that webmasters are searching for and google could really get its teeth intoRicks-Cams wrote: ↑January 7th, 2022, 6:15 am@Tacnet you would think forum scripts today would be seo friendly, how does this one look to you in general.
Most forums, blogs, tube scripts etc that i see these days have seo friendly urls

The old urls will still work as normal its just that all your internal links will point to the new urls. So as google crawls your site it will pick up the new urls and eventually discard the old ones
dont worry you wont loose anything but you'll gain a hell of a lot

Here is the problem I have been reading about seo friendly extensions for phpBB today, and the general concensus is they are not necessary as the existing url structure for phpBB is good enough for Google. I am not disputing what you say Adrian you know way more about SEO than me, that said. The problem is two fold first there is no extension I have found that works for the latest version of the script and php. Second if I do find something a little older and install it when phpBB updates the forum script (Or when php releases a newer version) which they do all the time, it might not work and things will go haywire. Honestly I would rather not open this can of worms right now.

I agree with TAC that SEO friendly URLs will do better for SEO, but be sure to test the plugin. Sometimes there will be outdated ones that will make the URLs look good, but then the internal linking still links to the old links and are all 301s.TheButcher wrote: ↑January 7th, 2022, 1:42 pmHere is the problem I have been reading about seo friendly extensions for phpBB today, and the general concensus is they are not necessary as the existing url structure for phpBB is good enough for Google. You two know more about SEO for sure but there is nothing for the latest version of phpBB. Installing an already older extension (plugin in WP lingo) is not smart, as i mentioned phpBB updates all the time it might work and it might not, then we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The one I found will rewrite new urls not old ones, but once t does there is no going back, so if the version does not get updated we will have a problem. Who knows when some extension author will give up updating his script, it has happened before.

Yep totally understand why you dont wanna get into a potential can of worms. Its your forum after all
Yes the phpBB structure is good enough for google. Google will find your pages as is, it just wont give you the added boost for having keywords in your urls.
To be honest, Im surprised that phpBB doesnt do it automatically. Almost all sites have SEO friendly urls these days

I am monkeying around with an seo extension now, sorry if the site gets messed up every now and then.
Yes surprised phpBB doesn't have it as a built in feature.
