Look at the projections, it's going to get very bad for the next 3 months. We have to stop pretending it's going to be alright just to please people for Christmas and make retailers sales, we need a 100% lock down now.

This is the big question. You can get omicron if youve already had delta but nobody knows yet if getting omicron will protect you against other variants. Its only been around for a couple of weeks so no data yet

Think about this and I am sure many have, if they came out with a vaccine that prevented you form getting infected or sick with the virus they could only make a certain number of dollars worldwide. Huge money I know but make it a 2 shot vaccine you double your sales, now give a booster every 3-6 months and the cash keeps flowing in............
Which begs the question are the handful of companies that make these vaccines sorry to see new variants......

Hell yeah im sure big pharma is loving this. No wonder Pfizer said they would have an omicron vaccine in 100 days
But I dont think they will ever get a vaccines that protects against all future variants. Not with something as infectios as this. Each time it infects is another chance for it to mutate and it only takes one virus to find a way past the vaccine and thats it, we are all back to square one again
We cant even vaccinate against flu without booster shots every year and flu is nowhere near as contagious as this
One thing is for certain, we cant carry on like this either. The world cant afford to vaccinate its entire population each time a new variant arrives. Its only been a year and we have already had 4 or 5 i think

"Super immunity" sounds god, now I hope some fools do not go try get infected just to try build up "Super immunity." From what I have read this Omicron if it does not cause major illness and hospitalization might be the beginning of the end of this pandemic just because it will increase herd immunity out there, we shall see. I know this is wishful thinking but from what I understand with every new mutation of a virus it gets more readily infectious and but causes a weaker disease. One thing for certain this Omicron is spreading very fast and by all accounts it is not causing as hard a disease or death as say Delta did.
"A study by Oregon researchers finds that people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 who have a breakthrough infection end up with what the authors call "super immunity."
They caution the vaccinated should not seek COVID-19 infection, but the "hybrid immunity" offers some solace for those who catch one despite having been vaccinated.
"The bottom line of the study is that vaccine provides you with foundational immunity for whatever comes next," said Fikadu Tafesse, a professor of molecular microbiology and immunology in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon."

CandianChick it is too little too late and not enough. If you are going to shut things down do it now and do it for everything except gas stations, pharmacies and grocery stores. Restaurants can have 50% capacity from 5 am to 10 pm well duh guess what time people go out to dinner so what is that all about. Beauty salons are still open with some measures, okay you are so concerned about the disease spreading you closed down the gyms, bars, taverns and schools hell with getting your hair done. You need to be educated not have pretty hair cuts.
My prediction is after Boxing day when stores have had a chance to make money there will be a lot more restrictions put in place, maybe even another curfew. This is all being held back for stores to bang some Christmas sales.
My 2 cents.

The flip side of this is,if you close things down and people do not get to go out and get exposed to the virus you are never going to build up herd immunity. Once you get the virus and have been fully vaccinated you are not going to be very safe form future infections.
It was posted here, and so the Omicron is not leading to massive hospital cases or ICU cases, therefore it is a way of contracting the disease and having it pass lightly for most people. These people now have "Super immunity" against future infections.
