Just saw this on the-sun.co.uk new covid-19 drug cuts deaths by up to 80% and was approved in the UK this might be a game changer.
https://www.the-sun.com/health/4188245/ ... rce=pushly
"NEW Covid drug that cuts the risk of death by nearly 80 per cent has been approved in the UK amid the fight against Omicron.
Xevudy (Sotrovimab) was given the green light as it's been deemed safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in Covid patients.
The antibody treatment is most effective during the early stages of coronavirus illness - and should be administered within five days of showing symptoms.
Clinical trials showed the drug was able to reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death by 79 per cent among high-risk adults.
The ground breaking drug was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) this morning."

If the virus becomes weaker as it mutates then who carestacnet wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 4:32 pmIve heard the same and it sounds logical. After all its not in the virus interest to kill off the hostTheButcher wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 4:19 pmAll the drama over the Omicron variant, what I have read so far is people who have contracted it are showing mild symptoms and I have also read that as mutations occur they get weaker in the illness they cause. Not a doctor or scientist only repeating what I have seen posted.
But they also said that the problem with covid is not its severity, it how massively contagious it is.
So any new variant might be no more than a mild flu for 95% of people but when it infects billions, thats still a lot of people are going to die
And each variant is getting more and more contagious

Omicron might be the best thing that has happened in this pandemic, it might give a big portion of the population herd immunity without making them too sick.

It is good news but what happens when a new variant comes along which it will, and many more variants, are we going to get another booster shot for each new variant.
"Pfizer and BioNTech said three doses of their Covid-19 vaccine neutralize the Omicron coronavirus variant, according to the results of an initial laboratory study.
The data showed a third dose of the vaccine increases neutralizing antibodies by 25-fold compared with two doses, strengthening the case for and need for booster shots."

Breaking news Christmas in Quebec will not be as much fun as hoped for but I understand the reasoning and agree with this move by the government.
"Predicting at least 3,700 COVID-19 cases Friday, Quebec halves capacity at businesses, cuts Christmas limits"

Here in the UK we have gone from an average of around 53,000 cases a day to 90,000 cases a day in just 2 days !!!
Believe me, everybody in the WORLD is going to catch Omicron. This is going to be like a tsunami around the globe
Yes it might be mild but even if it only hospitalises a small percentage of people, that's still going to swamp any countries health systems.
All governments can do now is try and slow it down.

It might take us out of a pandemic if it creates true herd immunity

Yep true. In the long run this could be the answer to finally get herd immunity.TheButcher wrote: ↑December 16th, 2021, 9:53 pmIt might take us out of a pandemic if it creates true herd immunity
The only problem is if it happens all at once as even half a percent getting hospitalised will overrun any countries defences
The numbers we are seeing here in the UK are alarming and wherever you are in the world, you will see the same over the coming days and weeks. (Note I said days and weeks, not months. It wont take that long).
Mostly its mild but we have already seen our first deaths relating to omicron in the UK. Again un-vaccinated people
