Purely a guess but I believe the first cookie will get the sale.Colmike7 wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:19 pmJust curious, but let's say that a program is using 'first cookie wins for x days' kind of thing, then a surfer clicks an affiliate link where that cookie is already set for affiliate 1, but the link is affiliate 2's, will that unique show up on the affiliate #1 or #2's stats?
I feel like I should know this but I'm not 100%... lol
[BUSINESS] how is this possible in my stats

Yeah I know, but I was thinking of reasons why stats would show up like that with links pulled, because I've seen it a lot, too.TheButcher wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:24 pmPurely a guess but I believe the first cookie will get the sale.Colmike7 wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:19 pmJust curious, but let's say that a program is using 'first cookie wins for x days' kind of thing, then a surfer clicks an affiliate link where that cookie is already set for affiliate 1, but the link is affiliate 2's, will that unique show up on the affiliate #1 or #2's stats?

Isn't that what some guys were doing years back on some mainstream site and got busted for "cookie stuffing?"Colmike7 wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:19 pmJust curious, but let's say that a program is using 'first cookie wins for x days' kind of thing, then a surfer clicks an affiliate link where that cookie is already set for affiliate 1, but the link is affiliate 2's, will that unique show up on the affiliate #1 or #2's stats?

I might try re-wording what I asked, not talking about cookie stuffing.blingman wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:32 pmIsn't that what some guys were doing years back on some mainstream site and got busted for "cookie stuffing?"Colmike7 wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:19 pmJust curious, but let's say that a program is using 'first cookie wins for x days' kind of thing, then a surfer clicks an affiliate link where that cookie is already set for affiliate 1, but the link is affiliate 2's, will that unique show up on the affiliate #1 or #2's stats?

The big mainstream thing, btw, was an affiliate cookie stuffing Ebay for 10s of millions.

No. I might be wrong, but I think that clicks are tracked by cookies, right? If so, then cookies that are 'first click wins' will show clicks like that if someone already has a cookie set, then clicks on someone else's affiliate link, and is long enough to still be valid and didn't clear cookies etc., because it didn't overwrite with the new affiliate cookie.Big MOE wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 11:34 amdid you get a definite answer on this?Colmike7 wrote: ↑November 19th, 2021, 4:19 pmJust curious, but let's say that a program is using 'first cookie wins for x days' kind of thing, then a surfer clicks an affiliate link where that cookie is already set for affiliate 1, but the link is affiliate 2's, will that unique show up on the affiliate #1 or #2's stats?
