[BUSINESS] Going rates for mainstream business

Whats the going rates these days for mainstream web design / management ??

My brother has just taken over as the managing director of an electric car charging company here in the UK and they want to outsource their website work. Its not something I have the time to do but ive been asked what the going rates are and if i know anybody who would be interested

They got a pretty slick site at the moment based on Bootstrap but it needs re-working and updating on a regular basis. They also want some help in building up their social meadia presence

Perhaps surprisingly I have no idea what the going rates are for this kind of work. Like most of you, i make my money out of porn :D

Any ideas ?

Tacnet

You are asking how long a piece of string is, so here is an example.

The going rate for some companies is $25k minimum with a $3k to $5k per month retainer/contract.

For others the rate is please pay, and they will do what they can when If they can. They are making so little money they spend more time looking for work to pay the bills.

Hourly rates range from $10 to $1000s per hour. ( I know of copywriters that charge $1k per page) These rates depend on the service provided, location of the workers, Philippines, India, New York, etc. With some service providers, project management and language barriers becomes the issue/s.
This is my experience with most service providers from the Philippines and India.
Project management is can be a problem and most often is no matter the location of the service provider.

I am working with a Medium sized American company on a larger product. Continually, I am receiving substandard work product from them. Their follow through is less than stellar, etc.
The point, they charge too much, IMHO, for the amount of follow up I am forced to provide in pointing out their mistakes.

I have worked with great people and horrible people at both ends of the rate chart.

Social media management is about the same with a much smaller minimums. However, with Social Media, mistakes can be more costly and harder or impossible to reverse.

Send me the project brief.
Once I review and if I am interested I will give you ballpark quote.

If they do not have a project brief. I charge $2500 to document project briefs criteria.

The project brief is a requirement. (should be a requirement.)

If the site owner can not or will not document what they need and what their goals are, etc. this is a sign of a project about to go wrong.

A project brief, IMHO, is the only way to accurately quote a project.

Hope this helps.

;)

I'll do it full time, both web development and social media, for $5000/month with $4000 up front to start.

Maybe, at least it's my going rate at the moment for full time remote work, $USD. I think in the UK it would cost at least that for one full time employee doing both presumed full stack web development plus SMO.

Total cost of a full time employee in-house in the UK will cost about or more than what I offered.
