thanks colmike7 I downloaded from the official site but my MacBook will not let me open it, it says words to the effect it can not verify there are no malware on there. What else do you suggest please. I have to prepare a word type document for a friend.

Google has a suite of office tools that you can use if you have a regular Google account. You can store the docs in drive or download them. That's your choice. There's spreadsheets, docs, presentations, pdf, etc. These are comparable to MS office products. It's free and there's nothing that needs to be installed so why not check it out.
