Is cloud computing another way of saying a shared server?

I am looking at server options and some say go with a dedicated server and others say go cloud.

Not really it is shared resources, more than just one server.Where as if you get a shared account on a server you are limited to every other user on that box.

From what I recall when cloud servers became available it was promoted as paying for what you need not having to spend money maintaining your own servers. The rationale today my have changed.

Still not convinced it is the best solution for a simple one man operation such as myself. The dedicated sever in a rack is still my choice.
