Right now I'm grumpy af. Been going cold turkey on vaping. I have to be off vapes for 6 month to start the medical assessment. No tobacco, no nicotine including vapes, patches, gum, etc, no alcohol, no elicit drugs, no addictive substances of any kind for 6 month. I'm supposed to contact the social/psycho coordinator in November for an in depth interview along with my "support person" (another requirement) to make sure there isn't anything else that needs worked on before I can be cleared to proceed to the medical evaluation.
We did get a load of info, none that makes me jump for joy. 5 year survival rate for lung transplant is just 49%. The drugs that I'll have to take to suppress my immune system for the rest of my life will make me more susceptible to pick up things and also if I happen to be unlucky enough to get cancer then there's no stopping it. Suppressing your immune system supercharges that. Recovery is long and may involve repeated hospitalizations. On the positive side, all my expenses including all drugs is covered, I can have it done at the Cleveland Clinic once I've completed the approval process with the VA.
I don't know what I'm going to do. This might add a few years but I'm not sure if it's worth it in the end. All I know is I have 6 month to consider it while I stop the vapes. I'm also supposed to start going to pulmonary rehab. So I have time to decide what to do. If I proceed, it'll take about 6 weeks to complete all the testing and maybe another 2 weeks for review process. Then if I'm approved, I'm on the list. I could be on that list for months, years. According to Google average wait in my area is 6 month. But who knows what it will be a year from now. I'm sure the Corona virus has made lung transplants more common place.
Right now I'm getting off vapes to have the option but I'm leaning against getting a transplant. We'll see how I feel in a few months from now.

The is a very personal decision but why not quit the vaping and other things you mentioned if you are still doing them, that there will only help your lungs. Then you have 6 months to think it through and decide. My 1 worthless cent but I do wish you all the best.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Vaping is the only bad habit that I have left. That's why I'm grumpy afshoopa wrote: ↑August 15th, 2021, 8:26 pmThe is a very personal decision but why not quit the vaping and other things you mentioned if you are still doing them, that there will only help your lungs. I made it almost 3 days and I hit the fucking juul. I just got back from Vapor King store. I bought a new device and juice with zero nicotine. Let's see if I can get off the nicotine by using my "pacifier" and then hopefully ditch it in about 2 weeks or so. Addiction sucks!TheButcher wrote: ↑August 16th, 2021, 11:01 amHeidiHoe wrote: ↑August 15th, 2021, 8:30 pmThat's exactly what I'm doing. Vaping is the only bad habit that I have left. You can do this Heidi
Im sure it seems like a mountain right now. Ive been vaping for 4 years and im sure its mostly about having something in my hand
Have you considered Hypnotherapy ?? I only suggest it because my grandfather went from 20 a day for over 50 years to zero in one afternoon !!!
No cravings, withdrawel symptoms, patches or anything like that. Infact he said it was the easiest thing he ever did because he didnt even have to try. The guy just convinced him he didnt want to smoke anymore
Worth looking into if your will power is anything like mine

I'm thinking the "pacifier" might do the trick. So far so good. Tastes like crap and lacks satisfaction but keeps me from hitting the real thing. Fingers crossed. A couple weeks should do the trick to get me off the vapes I'm hoping. I'm optimistictacnet wrote: ↑August 16th, 2021, 8:42 pmYou can do this Heidi

Smoking and vaping is a psychological throw back to when we are a child and suck on our mother's tits for milk, this is what i have read. Where we feel comforted.
