If I was Microsoft and wanted to tackle Google, I would go buy up all the other smaller search engines, just redirect the domains to Bing.
It would still not be a real challenge to Google

greatpornlinks is right

Not so long ago Google would have been considered a monopoly and broken up by the Monopolies (is that how you spell it ?) & Mergers Commission

That almost happened to Microsoft when Apple was about to go bust. That would have left Microsoft as a monopoly and it forced Bill Gates to invest millions in Apple, just to keep it afloat

Never a good thing to have one company with THAT much dominance in my opinion

Yep believe it or not. It was the only way Bill Gates could stop Microsoft being broken up as a monopoly, he had to keep the competition afloat. And the only real competition in the desktop software market back then was Apple and they were on the brink of going bankrupt.

So Bill Gates had to invest millions in Apple to get them back on their feet.

Mad when you think about it but thats how it worked back then.

Why Bill gates is worth $131 billion today, he thinks a head. By investing in Apple he kept them alive, he prevented his company from being broken up, and I bet his investment has paid off handsomely.

Smart decision.
