If it saves lives and people are too dumb to voluntarily get the shots then whatever it takes.

Things were looking good and now this Delta variant has turned it bad again. My question to you mart guys is, how can the vaccines protect against Delta and new variants when these variants were not around at the time they developed the vaccines.

ok as I understand it (and Im no expert so anybody feel free to correct me), the delta variant has a variation in the spike protein which makes it much more transmissable. The viral load you get from the delta variant is 1000 times the load you would get from the original covid 19 (hence more transmissable)blackbooty wrote: ↑July 30th, 2021, 8:37 amThings were looking good and now this Delta variant has turned it bad again. But apparently the spike protein is just one of the proteins that the vaccine targets. There are enough of the other proteins still the same to make the vaccines effective
As I said, thats just how i read it so any smarter people please correct me if im wrong

This is what I have seen said online, it's just that the Delta variant has a much larger viral load and from what I have read unlike what some people say that the vaccines do not work, they do and sure you can get Covid-19 even when fully vaccinated (which I am) but the severity and odds of ending up in ICU or dying are reduced.tacnet wrote: ↑July 30th, 2021, 8:51 amok as I understand it (and Im no expert so anybody feel free to correct me), the delta variant has a variation in the spike protein which makes it much more transmissable. wait till schools re-open cases are going to go up like crazy
"(CNN)Almost 72,000 children and teens caught Covid-19 last week -- a "substantial" increase from a week earlier, the American Academy of Pediatrics reported Tuesday.
The group counted 71,726 new cases from July 22 - 29. That is a "substantial" increase from the nearly 39,000 cases reported a week before, and five times as many kids who were sick at the end of June. The definition of a child varies by state but generally includes those up to age 17 or 18.
After decreases in reported cases over the past couple of months, the July numbers started trending upward again as the highly transmissible Delta variant of the virus became dominant in the country.
"That's high and considering the fact that we are vaccinated now, what that's telling us is that unvaccinated people are getting infected in higher numbers because the virus is more infectious with the Delta variant," said Dr. Yvonne Maldonado, chief of the division of infectious diseases in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford Medicine and chair of the AAP committee on infectious diseases.
More than 4.2 million kids have tested positive for Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. Children and teens represented 19% of reported cases in the latest weekly data"

Breaking news Quebec to introduce vaccine passports.
"MONTREAL -- Quebec plans to adopt a vaccine passport given a recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the province, Premier François Legault announced Thursday.
The premier said Quebecers are on the cups of a fourth wave of the pandemic and that a vaccine passport will be implemented as a response.
Legault said “certain privileges” will be extended to people who are adequately vaccinated against the virus, which has killed 11,240 people in Quebec since the start of the pandemic.
CTV News COVID-19 Coverage
“Get your two doses … it’s the only way to end this pandemic,” the premier said.
On Wednesday, the ministry of health told CTV News that unvaccinated or partially vaccinated Quebecers accounted for 92 per cent of new COVID-19 cases from July 1 to 24.
"The purpose of the vaccine passport is to allow access to non-essential activities for properly vaccinated people," said Marie-Louise Harvey, a media relations officer for the ministry. "Its specific use will be determined according to the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the vaccination coverage in Quebec."
As of Thursday, 83 per cent of eligible Quebecers have been vaccinated with one dose, while 67 per cent of of the eligible population is fully vaccinated. "

I am all for it, great idea. We do not need this pandemic to keep carrying on where people are getting infected and dying.
I am fully vaccinated with the Pfizer/ BioNTech
Quebec was down to 50 odd cases a day just a month ago with people getting close to 110,000 vaccines a day. Today the number reported for yesterday were
305 new cases
49,337 doses administered.
You want to get back to normal, wear the mask, wash your hands regularly, keep your distance from others and get fully vaccinated, there are no 2 ways about it.
Good for the government handling this pandemic right.

I think you might be right for the US. I was suprised to see just now that the vaccination rate in the US is only at 50%. I thought it would have been way higher by now
Im guessing there must be a lot of resistance over there ??
Obviously we are a lot smaller but here in the UK we are in a totally different situation. I think we have over 80% fully vaccinated and we have just dropped all social distancing, masks etc.
We are pretty much back to normal even with the delta variant spreading like wildfire.
Because of the vaccine, death rates are way down so we can open up
