The bounce rate is the percentage of people who close your site without clicking on anything.

Several things can affect it eg your site layout, your page load speed and also the quality of your traffic (for example, if somebody is popping your website or skimming traffic to it then it will increase your bounce rate as most users will immediately close these kind of pages)

A high bounce rate can affect your SEO as google prefers to send users to sites they engage with.

As a rule of thumb, a bounce rate in the range of 26 to 40 percent is excellent. 41 to 55 percent is roughly average. 56 to 70 percent is higher than average, but may not be cause for alarm depending on the website. Anything over 70 percent is disappointing for everything outside of blogs, news, events, etc.

Well it depends if you want them to spend more time on your site or send them straight out to your sponsor sites

NUDE.com has an 86% bounce rate and I love it. Get theuck offf my site and go to a sponsor. Oops put that F in the wrong place.

36% is great for a bounce rate. If that is the site average, work on the landing pages with the most visitors and the highest bounce rates.
Start with very simple changes.
Highlight a link or two above the fold. What queries are bouncing? Are those words above the fold?
If the queries that are bouncing are not relevant, ignore and move on.

AS for what that other Guy said about Google. NO!
Google does not use your Bounce rate.
If someone does a search, bounces on your site, and then returns to Google and performs the SAME search, then Google has stated that under those circumstances it is NOT a positive for your site for that EXACT search. Using Googles definition of "EXACT".
You can not be perfect for every query Google shows your site for.
To many people over simplify or over complicate (or just make up shit or repeat shit that is wrong)

Share you site link!!

You clearly dont understand what a bounce rate is. A bounce is someone who leaves your site without clicking anything

They arent going to your sponsors

So youve got 86% of your users closing your site without clicking anything.

Your an idiot.
backlinko wrote this article poorly.
They mean to say internal link.
Clicking an ad does not count as staying on the site, thus a bounce.
Again you get information from the toilet.

Bounce Rate
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_rate
Bounce rate is an Internet marketing term used in web traffic analysis. It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and then leave ("bounce") rather than continuing to view other pages within the same site.
Bounce rate is calculated by counting the number of single page visits and dividing that by the total visits. It is then represented as a percentage of total visits.

I will do you better
A bounce is a single-page session on your site.
https://support.google.com/analytics/an ... 9409?hl=en

I get my information from the source, not some repeating repeater that fails.

WTF - Worse than Failure.

Do some research before you correct me!

In Analytics, a bounce is calculated specifically as a session that triggers only a single request to the Analytics server, such as when a user opens a single page on your site and then exits without triggering any other requests to the Analytics server during that session.

I could set Analytics to track my ad clicks and will someday. Then my bounce rate will go to under 30%. Due to changing the way bounces are counted.

backlinko?? Really?
Did you read the entire page or just the first few sentences.

I just spent a while reading that backlinko page several times. Then wrote them one of my infamous emails with references, telling them how shitty their writers are.
Did you notice the MANY contradictions on the page? ah you probably did not read it..

TLDR much?

Keeping my regulars longer on my sites makes me think I am building good sites and one day they might click on a banner and buy a memebrship. But my focus is to keep them returning so I give them the best content I can.

You are kidding yourself if you think that having an 87% bounce rate is a good thing !!!

I dont know a single webmaster that would agree with you

If that many people were clicking on your sponsors links then a good portion of them would be clicking on your internal links too (thus lowering your bounce rate)

I assure you that the overwhelming majority of your bounces are NOT clicking anything, they are simply closing your page

Again talking without know a damn thing.

all conjecture.

again you are assuming

Since I know the answer I know you are not very smart.

Most people surround themselves with like minded people, so I can assume that most of the "webmasters" you know are as ignorant as you.

btw for those currios.

You check your landing page numbers and compare those to your affiliate click numbers and the bounce numbers.
This tells you the relation between visits, bounces and clicks to your sponsors.

If your sponsors' clicks are near your bounces then guess what...
Your bounces are clicking your sponsors.

So I assure you, tacnet is soft in the head, when it comes to telling me I am wrong...

You can throw all the insults you like at me. Water off a ducks back

Ive been in this game long enough to know that when google tells you you've got an 87% bounce rate then YOUVE GOT A PROBLEM. That many users are NOT clicking on your sponsors whilst carefully avoiding your internal links. That simply doesn't happen on a blog page like that

They are bouncing by CLOSING your page !

Whats more I know exactly WHY they are bouncing. I used google to run some analysis on your page and you have two MAJOR issues. Believe it or not, there's MILLIONS of users out there who CANNOT click on your internal links, even if they tried.

But seeing as I am stupid, soft in the head, not very smart (and all the other insults youve thrown at me recently) then Im not going to tell you. Work it out yourself

This is a perfect example of why you are an idiot.

You have no idea, you can not see my stats, you have done no research, and you are just typing in your ignorance.

the way the tools you share work, how could anyone, including yourself trust them.

I do not want people going to my internal pages.. are you NOT paying attention.
First I dont care about the site.. you continue to think I would and should.

Almost every link in home page is a link to an external site. Because I want people to leave.

I have the analytics for ALL the sites that I link to, I can see how many visitors are referred from NUDE.com

I know not all 87% are going to these sites.
I know that the true bounce rate is around 40%

I could
I don't care. Pay attention!

I have done nothing but add more external links and banner to the site for years. Even the automated content has stopped working.

You have performed more webmaster duties on the site this year than me.

I look at stats occasionally.
I did go look and yes something is up and a lot is broken that was not broken before, so thanks for pointing that out.

Still don't care, I do not plan to do much to fix it. UNLESS I see my clicks to my ads to down.

I will probably go fix the watch 4 beauty picture of the day area at some point and some other broken images that were not there last time I looked.

Again NOT a priority. Thanks for pointing it out.

However you thinking you know anything about me or my site is why you need to be duck and being a duck is why you should stop giving people poor and misleading advice.
Instead of using that water off your back to learn something. Well you can lead a duck to water...

FYI, in fact my referrals from nude.com top my other sites are up...
my conversions are up
the money coming in is up

so my methods are working to make me money
Stop trying to prove to others and yourself that the years you have been in business compares to me at all.

Every time I have recently tested or researched anything you have said comes out to be wrong!

I just went and verified.
I type in my bounce rate backwards at the beginning of this thread. (dyslexia)
68% not 86% then I continued speaking about it incorrectly. My bad!

I went and actually looked.

For this year the average bounce rate is 63.33%

Direct is 60.60%
Organic 69.56%
Referral 72.58%
Social 71%
other 50%

When I check my stats I look at clicks not average of averages.
When I do compare my clicks to my stats, I can tell you that my clicks in are very close to my clicks to my other sites and sponsors.

tacnet can say what he wants, but is just typing in more nonsense.

Facts!

I rarely work on nude.com. I barely work on the subdomains, once a month, if that.
I should do that instead of typing in here.

Adult is NOT how I make the majority of my income. If you knew my income from Adult, you might not be impressed, but I bet most of you would like to put in the effort I do and make the same amount of income. Effort to income is very impressive IMHO.

Until Obama, adult income was about 40% of my income.
Several of the programs I used shut down. One literally said they were shutting down (the program I was in that was a special program for people like me) because Obama was going to be president and mess up the world. ( which has happened IMHO)

I was making more money outside the Adult world, so I have not taken the time to give a shit, since. Where would you focus your time. Here is a $1 to go that way to adult business, here is $5 to go to non adult business. I bet you all go to the $5s (Especially if the effort is less and the recurring is greater.)

Sure I build subdomains and I throw up hosted tube sites and other white-labels from time to time.
I automate some content here and there. (which seems to be broken now ;( )

I love to run SEO tests on what many think are black hat SEO! So I can then test them on non adult sites.

I apologize for having an dyslexia moment with my numbers and just now catching it.

You may have notice that tacnet took it as fact, did no checking and then started is ignorant rambling.
He is one of those that does not know that he does not know.
He is also one of those that when confronted doubles down instead of admitting and learning.

Bounce rate high or low can be good depending on your business strategy and how you are tracking your bounce rates.

I most certainly can change how my stats track my bounce rate and greatly decrease the bounce rate data.
