I have moved some really bad Wordpress sites to these server, meaning they were really really slow and the hosting company was blaming the wordpress install for the slowness.

They stoped being really really bad wordpress sites. they went to being average to above average sites, then after optimizing wordpress, they become really really fast sites.

So anyone that thinks a server can not fix a slow wordpress site obviously has not tested a dedicated server with some power.
I can see in analytics the increase in page views. Soon followed by the increase in impression in search console. Increased impressions normally means increased clicks. Then optimize the CTRs and you can see a steady increase in traffic.

Speed is the number one factor for a website. Period!
I do not care what else you do to a slow site. As soon as you make an average performing slow site fast, everything about thats site's performance will increase. to clarify, if your site is Yīkuài gǒu shǐ, then no matter how fast it is, it will still be Yīkuài gǒu shǐ.

So sure you need the basics done properly. However, if you do everything proper and your site is of average or slow speed, forget getting ranked well. Please read I said 'average'. I fyou do not know what these means in relation to SEO... SSSSH!
