who owns the copyright to designs

#1

Post by donnie » February 3rd, 2021, 9:06 am

Who owns the design after you pay for it, my designer claims he owns the copyright and I can not sell the site without his approval for the logo and images he did for me.This mess started when the buyer contacted him to redo the top logo with a small change. My dumb big idea I told her to not spend money on a new logo to contact the guy I had do it ask him to redesign the thing.

That's bullshit I you paid for the design you own it, photographers do this crap too. You go to a wedding and want a a couple of prints they charge you an arm and a leg because they hold on to the negatives. Hell they make a bundle as it is for a half days work taking the pic.

When you pay for the design ask for the psd files along with the finished product.

Designers are mostly unreliable cheap asses who take way longer time to do the work than they promise.

on the copyright at bottom of page, does it say it is copyright by you, or by designer?

It says "copyright 2017" which I assume means the site not the designer

they need to be "exclusive" for you to own them. if they are like from template monster the author retains ownership

The seller of the blog said he paid for the designs they are not something he copied form online, so how do i know if his designer didn't charge him for free images off the net, this is weird shit.

Designer paid for the work then you have to rightfully own the design, tell me if I am wrong.

If there's no contract or written agreement that states this, then it's yours. If the designer argues, ignore it and have someone else do the job.
