money making lessons from the Donut Man

.

from the internet:

Back in the 1990s, I was living in North Carolina, and playing piano in a gospel quartet on the weekends.

One afternoon, I stopped by my favorite music store in Greensboro to pick up some microphone cables.

I wound up talking to an older guy there in the store.

His name was Chuck.
He was a classic “old-timer”
Lots of stories. Big laugh.

Anyway, I asked Chuck what he did for a living and he said, “I’m The Doughnut Man.”

I laughed, "The Doughnut Man? You make doughnuts?"

He said, "Nope. I sell 'em."

Now, I’m going to tell you what he told me....but first I want to clarify something...

At the time he told me this, I was working 40 hours a week at a bookstore for $6.25 an hour.

That’s $250 per week BEFORE taxes. I was bringing home less than $1,000 per MONTH. Got it?

Okay, so here’s what The Doughnut Man was about...

Every morning, he would get up around 5am and go to the local Krispy Kreme doughnut store and buy 100 dozen doughnuts.

That's 1,200 doughnuts.

My gosh, can you imagine how good that smelled?

He had a special gizmo in the backseat of his car that kept them all warm. They wouldn't get cold for hours.

Anyway, he would drive to a one of the really big office buildings (he wouldn't tell me which one) and he'd ride all the way up to the top floor and start working his way down the building, sticking his head in offices and saying....

"Good morning Janice. Doughnuts today?"

He said you could hear the chatter all over the office.

"The Doughnut Man is here...The Doughnut Man is here...."

Secretaries pulling bills out of wallets.
Men getting out their billfolds.
Chuck just standing there and grinning, making change, cracking jokes...

Then he'd go to the next office.

He had a different building he'd go to every day. People in those offices even remembered to have spare change on certain days. "Today's Tuesday. The Doughnut Man is coming today."

On average, it took him less than 2 hours to get rid of 100 dozen doughnuts.

Then he'd go deposit his cash and then grab a late breakfast. The rest of the day was his to do whatever he wanted to do. Like sit around the Music Barn and talking to me.

I did the math at the time.

He was making $300/day....and it took him less than 4 hours from the time he woke up to the time he went to bed.

$300 per day. Heck, that’s a good income here in 2018...

...but this was back in the 1990s when a five-dollar bill was as big as a bedsheet!

Do you see it?

Did you spot it?

Chuck The Doughnut Man was bringing home more cash in 4 hours than I earned in TWO WEEKS working TWO jobs.

BOOM.

That was a moment of clarity for me.

One guy....with an idea....and the willingness and courage to step outside of 'what everyone else is doing'.......

And he was making $1,500 with:

[+] no boss to report to
[+] no employees
[+] no overhead
[+] no certifications or licensing
[+] no one looking over his shoulder
[+] no one telling him what time he could eat or go to the bathroom

Just simple, stripped-down free enterprise at its finest.

I drove back home that day and my mind was racing.

I couldn't get it out of my head.

Now, I never wanted to be a Doughnut Man....

...and I was smart enough to know that there's no such thing as a perfect business. Even The Doughnut Man had his own problems he had to solve....

But, ever since that day, I’ve aspired to have a business model that’s as simple, elegant, and profitable as his.

Today, I still wouldn’t say my business is as simple as Chuck’s.

But I DO earn more money…and I DO earn it in less time. And I have way more leverage. Plus, I have the Internet (and he didn’t).

But I can’t argue that Chuck’s commitment to simplicity is still an inspiration for me today.

Damn, that's one simple idea with perfect execution.
Just like someone told me to find a product which is used in every home at least once and day and sell it if it has 50 cent profit. At the end of the month, you'd make a couple of millions.

The guy understood how to meet a demand. Even though he never made the doughnuts himself. Where I used to work, this guy would come over with his truck, wash years anywhere form $20 to a mini detail for $150 while the people in the office building went about their work. He must have had 20 customers a day at the very minimum, he was there 4 days a week, and this was a 11 story office building. Hey make $400 a day is good money, this is 7 years ago.

first of all you need to decide what specific niche you want to promote

then you'll need a domain name

i suggest either

www.namecheap.com
www.godaddy.com
www.namesilo.com

for domain registration

www.namesilo.com gets the best reviews for a domain registrar

i use www.namecheap.com for my domain registrar

many other people swear by www.godaddy.com even though it gets bad professional reviews
