It is to me

I'm for the no counter vote, it serves no purpose.

Does Google use a public counter, no. So why you want to use one.

For the counter people, if you were to recommend a free counter for a blog which one would it be.

Ask 2 people a question you get 3 opinions rofl

Any counter will work what you need to be asking is why put one on a smaller site.

[CanadianChick]

Not a priority for me so I have not researched into counters, it does not appeal to me.

what's the point of showing you have 100 or 1000 visitors to a site?

To start the counter at 1000000 to make it seem like the site is more popular than it is. Or if you want to be accurate on your prize giveaways at every millionth visitor.. :p

and if it goes up by a few hits a day you look the right loser

phpjunkyard.com has a freebie script. If I remember right you can set an incremental number to make the count go up by whatever you want with each hit. It's not a plugin, so you'd have to upload the small php script and include the php code in your footer to call the script. Add it to the theme template file or there's plugins that let you add code where you need it.
