where is the database?
I have nightly backups of my server, everything is there (I think) I downloaded the tar.zip file but can not find where the mysql databases are stored to upload it again. I can contact my host ask them to restore it for me, but being Easter Sunday it seems not a nice thing to do.
Thank you

How do you do the backups? If you're doing something like mysqldump but don't define a directory, it will save in the current directory when the command was executed.
Or might be in var/lib/mysql
But, there are a lot of other possibilities, I'm just guessing.

You learn by asking & trying it out. It makes you a better person not dependent on others.

Try moving up in the directory, var is in the base directory usually and not a home directory.
Or maybe if you're using Ubuntu, comment a line like this out in the config: chroot_local_user=YES
Or maybe your host disabled it or put you in "chroot jail".. lol. :p

Also, chroot is different than jails, but I still call it chroot jail out of bad habit lol.
If they are just using chroot, though, you can get out of it kind of easily, even if you're not a root user.

can you explain the difference between chroot and jail, I always thought they were one and the same.
