The way most do it is to allow it for free download and charge extra for add ons , support and hosting it.

Woops yes - I misread the question, i thought he wanted me to upgrade one ... but yes you are right, nothing stops you from charging for an open source script - but its the norm that you add something first or do it via plugins etc.

But actually, there are submitters out there - if say, you looked at the Hun or one of the other remaining big ones, and simply mailed an invite to the active ones ... you´ll get a gang and it adds a good dynamic to have lots of sources (i did it when i made Loasex and it worked nicely, got a good load of submitters)
