Things NOT to do when starting a new site or if your site has little traffic

If your site has a few hits a day do NOT put a pop-under, pop-up, floating ad, lay over ads, it is pointless. All it does is piss off surfers and they will not book mark the site.

I see this every day and not sure what people are thinking. Your goal (well my goal anyways) is to grow the site, I hate having to close these silly ads all over the place when visiting a site, and if it pisses me off and I am in the business, guess what it does to some casual surfer.

The other thing, do NOT disable the back button on the browser. Lastly these dam browser locking scripts. I have run into these quite a few times over the past month and it is not nice, it is not right and illegal in some jurisdiction.
The ones where they claim you need to pay for the browser to be released or you were at a porn site and need to pay to delete the information are definitely illegal.

End of rant.

Popunders do not do good sign up ratios so why even waste time with them on a new site

Popunder traffic is crap to start with. You need to be a big tube eg pornhub to make money with them.

Popunders are annoying no doubt and putting one on a new site is about as stupid a thing to do as any.
Totally in agreement with the the first post

If I find a pop under code that works then I might go for it when I have more traffic. For now I have no pop unders.

Colmike7 posted one here a long time ago, I'll try find it for you. But wait until your site has some decent traffic before adding a popunder.

The floating ads are the worst. Worth nothing for making sales and annoys me.

I am for popup's if your site has over 10K unique visits a day, anything less forget about it.

It takes months to build up search traffic, and you are not doing any favours to your site with pops when it has not been picked up by search engines.

hmm. some people say newbies have no clue. That is because they are NEW. I am surprised at the number of NOOBS that have been in the business for years and still can not see the big picture.

Pop integration and success all depends on how they are managed.

I did just look at one of my site and determined my ad script is not working and showing all pop undesr and pop ups for all countries to everyone on every click. so that sucks.
makes me agree with almost everything above. so damn it now I have to go do some work.

Before I go, when managed properly, pop ups and unders can be put on your site the day you launch.
Or you can wait and decrease your income possibilities from the start.
Sorry I disagree with you, but site traffic and site age of site are not something I consider when adding my pops and ads. Build that shit in from day one. Part of the functionality that you must create after you have your content. It is going to be your main income source. Even if you are advertising yourself.

It is all on how the popups and popunders are managed. I assume that most people just stick the code in their footer and every page gives every visitor a pop or several pops.
This is would make be agree with TheButcher. However, adding them to everypage is NOT a good example of how to implement pops or ads on a new site.
Not every page needs an ad. Certainly do not put pops on every page. Limit the pops per, person per visit, per day, etc. Exit pops are a must. Leaving my site?? Here is a pop! Make these your best self ads when possible.
Sorry to see you go! Did you remember to sign up for our free blah blaH!
If they click I dont want to give them another pop for being an asshole! ;)

When my ad script is working properly most ads and zero pops do not appear for free registered members.
Don't like my pops and ads, sign up/ free. This is also one of my main ads. ME to get your email address, which I then do nothing with.

Off to look at what is up with my script.

You do not help your seo or organic traffic by loading up a new site with pops, over lay ads and banners.
