[BUSINESS] why register a domain with 'www' in the name?

Hello Sponsochat and merry XMAS , this domain question might seem ridiculous but not knowing the answer I will ask it anyway.

why do some register the domain name with 'www' at the start of it. Just a hypothetical name, wwwsponsorchat.com and not sponsochat.com?

May be because the domain is taken so they want it and use the www to register a variation of it, who knows why.

and maybe for typos manual type-ins == - in case someone forgets to put a period after www. and they type in the full domain minus period ????

No logical reason and more people will forget the www in the domain and type the rest of the domain name, guess who ends up the big loser.
