[NON-BUSINESS] I did a group text tonight - big mistake

I am not a fan of texting which should not come as a surprise to some here. I like to pick up the phone talk , it is simpler, quicker and gets the message across much better. My kids have this tendency of starting a text with "Dad" I always reply " I know who I am" or "I hope I am your dad"
My friends mostly start with "Dave" I have told everyone if you have something to say pickup the phone. I type with 2 index fingers and hate typing. I tell everyone if you must text because you are in class, meeting somewhere you do not want others to hear the conversation that's fine, otherwise use the bloody phone.


So every day my kids will text me, "Dad" I go "Yes" or "I know I am your dad" then a pause, I start wondering if they are okay, not feeling well or if something is wrong, then they reply, "How are you doing?"

So tonight when I son started this whole text routine asking if I could go upstairs to his room, I yelled what's wrong with you coming down or calling me. He replied I wanted to ask you if you could bring me a Pepsi when you come up. So he wanted me to go upstairs to his room to tell me if I could go get him a drink.

I decided I would put an end to this aimless and unnecessary texts form my family and friends. This is where I messed up. I texted the family and the friends groups. "Please text me only if you can not get to a phone and it can't wait till you can use a phone."

Shit hit the fan, my kids, wife, friends all started replying jokes, nonsense and taking the piss out of me. I turned off the cell, guess what, mistake number two. Now they all started calling the home phone, and my rugrats kept calling me to pick up the phone in the den where I was sitting at the time. After 7 or 8 calls laughing at me for being behind the times and not into texting, my uncle called me. He is not on these 2 groups I texted the message to.

How did I know it was my uncle, I just picked up the phone said "Stop calling me I am tired of you."

Poor guy calmly replied, "Dave what is wrong, anything I cna do to help."

I felt like a real idiot.

It is funny now but an hour ago I felt real bad.

Well I'm done for tonight,have a great evening.

Yeh I do it in places where I am bored and pretend to be listening to the other people talking. Like family gatherings
