Tourists facing jail for having sex on the beach

Police have launched a manhunt for the tourists, who got amorous on Dongtan Beach at 8am after a night of partying.

Their identities are not known, but officers in the popular resort of Pattaya believe they are of western origin. The woman can be seen lying on her back on a large drainage pipe while the man stands over her. Onlookers said they had sex for more than three minutes before people started shouting at them to stop, and the couple disappeared down the beach.

Police Colonel Apichai Krobpetch, superintendent at Pattaya police station, said: ‘This happened in a public place where many tourists go to relax. The scene is in front of the Pattaya Marine Rescue Center. ‘I do not know where the tourists come from but officers are pursuing them in order to protect the reputation of the area.’ Officers are checking CCTV to trace their footsteps and have interviewed staff at the lifeguard’s hut, from where the pair were filmed.

The couple could be fined 5,000 baht (£115) if they are found guilty of public obscenity, but could even be sent to prison. Krobpetch added: ‘Police will investigate this and prosecute the people involved. This is very negative for the area. ‘We have spoken to many witnesses are we are pursing the offenders. It is a crime to have sex in public like this and they will be punished.’

Comical if the Police in Thailand actually did their real job instead of extorting money from tourists the crime rate might actually go down.... oh hold on the Police there are the criminals ! ... besides I see this incident as being more of tourist attraction rather than a problem Pattaya central is not bad but stray a short way outside you need to be tooled up like Rambo ! no matter what nationality you are....
