I can not afford to pay for 200 domains a year so subdomains is how I roll for each blog.
This is the main reason for me - cost.

Sub domains are seen as a seperate entity by google https://www.hostgator.com/blog/what-are ... ffect-seo/

From an SEO standpoint, I would steer clear of them and stick to one domain with folders.
Sub-domains are GREAT to use.

Not sure why you would post this article and then steer clear of subdomains.

Subdomains Can Insert Keywords Into URL- increasing click rates.
Subdomains Can Improve User Experience- visiting have learned that my tube site is XXX.NUDE.com. which is growing quickly and has gained on the NUDE.com as far a listings in the SEs.
Subdomains Can Grow Niche Authority- See above statement. As I continue to create subdomains it does however slowly increase my listing for the main domain NUDE.com.

As you may know building a site with many niches on one domain is a challenge. Thus use subdomains to branch out across several niches to build authority for them and increase link authority to and from all subdomains to each other and to the main domain.

The reason most people do not use this strategy is that it creates too many sites for them to manage and most often the strategy is not followed completely. Each subdomain must be treated as an individual site AND then a link and content strategy between the main domain and the subdomains must be followed.

It is easy, just not simple. It does work.

In the end you can increase brand awareness for the main domain through the success of the subdomain sites.

Folders so my domain gets more back links and search traffic, you have to consider this point when deciding on sub-domains.

Hi just asking to educate myself on the pros and cons of using subdomains or keeping each blog on it's own domain.

Thank you for the help.
As you can read above the subject/question of this thread is NOT what many of you are replying to.

plumpprincessxxx has asked on the pros and cons of using a subdomain or using a domain.
NOTHING was asked about using folders.

So all you people responding about folders need to sssh and learn to read AND and then answer the question that was asked.

PROs
As stated subdomains are by far cheaper than domains. Because they are already paid for.
Subdomains advertise your main domain in the address bar and the SERP Snippets.
Subdomains are great for niching your content. Thus using keywords for your subdomains has more influence than just your domain alone.
for example
If you have pets.com, that is very broad.
but dog.pets.com is not as broad
and the retriever.dog.pets.com is even more specific

Especially to the reader of the SERPs.

Cons I do not know of any CONS for using a subdomain in such a manner. What I consider a con anyway.

If you have issues managing your blog CMS, then having multiple CMSs to manage could be an issue.
I suggest you learn and use WPMS - wordpress multisite

You will need to verify subdomains separately, so in this manner many SEs do consider subdomains separate sites.
Tracking, setting, etc are all treated as a separate site. I see this as a PRO not a Con, though most lazy "repeaters" will see it as a Con.

My real question in the end would be does Google see links between subdomains and between the domain and subdomains as internal or external links?

so between spending the extra $8 ish dollars per domain(when you have a domainsecure.net account.)
and spending NADA on a new subdomain, the choice is easy. I go for NADA. 20 years ago I might have said different.

For you people saying folder folders hey read some more please!

I hope you people actually read what Google is publishing. It seems many of you are "repeaters". Just because someone that publishes lots of blogs and videos does not mean they know shit about what is going on. In fact, several times I have caught prominent SEO "Experts" sharing incorrect and blatantly the opposite of what Google publishes.
Remember my article on SEO Experts? NO, there is no such thing as and SEO Expert!!

Everywhere I read for the past say 20 years says that you should use subdomains for distinct products just as google does for news.google.com or maps.google.com even analytics.google.com etc etc etc etc.
When in Rome?

Do I really need to go and on?

Google says "You should choose whatever is easiest for you to organize and manage. From an indexing and ranking perspective, Google doesn't have a preference."

This question, again is about subdomains and domains NOT folders.

plumpprincessxxx use subdomains for your blogs if they are directly related to your main domain.

please don't do this for example
dogs.com
and then build
cats.dogs.com
Unless of course the blog is going to have content that includes cats with dogs or dogs with cats.

LOL!
Maybe that was a bad example.

Also, I read that
Each subdomain is considered a separate site for SEO and rankings.
I have found ZERO proof of this. Especially since Google Webmasters have stated several times that Google considers subdomains the same as folders for SEO purposes.

More on subfolders and this video also answers the question of this thread.
https://youtu.be/uJGDyAN9g-g

Pretty much he says USE SUBDOMAIN if you are planing on doing what plumpprincessxxx is planning on doing.

you people that keep saying folders, seriously.

If some asks if they should choose something blue or something purple and you say orange.

ORANGE IS NOT AN OPTION!
You fail the test.

They mean directories form what I gather when they mention folders.

yes they do, but the thread is not about directories or folders. It is about subdomain or domains.

I may not have mentioned that it is very easy to move a subdomain or domain to a new host or bigger server. A folder or directory is stuck where ever your domain is.

So upgrading your hosting for a particularly successful blog on a subdomain is very easy. A blog that is in folder or directory will not be easy with out a lot of server experience or paying a professional.
