[BUSINESS] Leasing a domain
Hello sponsorchat old timers, there is this domain for sale or lease, and the owner wants either $8500 or $1750 a year paid up front for upto 4 years. What safeguards me in the event he changes his mind after a while say 2 months does not let me use his domain.

Just the same as any contract you would have to sue the other party, but be careful if he is out of the country, the legal costs alone will make it not worth your while to go after him.

Yep you need an attorney, in the country where the domain registrant lives.
And one where the domain registrar does business.
I personally would never lease a domain.
I have and will lease my domains and subdomains.
and they want up to $7k to lease it and only $1500 more to buy? just buy it.

I was going to say the same thing, but was hoping they are smart enough to have already thought of that.

Why do you want to pay $1750 a year when you can buy a lot of other domains for that price or less?Dallastim wrote: ↑July 30th, 2019, 1:52 pmHello sponsorchat old timers, there is this domain for sale or lease, and the owner wants either $8500 or $1750 a year paid up front for upto 4 years. Spend less on the name and put the money in seo optimization.
My 2 cents

What a dumb idea to pay so much to lease a domain, I will never do it, too many things can go wrong.

At one point I leased NUDE.com for over $30k per month. It was less than I made when I ran it myself, but gave me several hundred hours of free time per month.urbanlegend wrote: ↑August 5th, 2019, 8:51 amWhat a dumb idea to pay so much to lease a domain, I will never do it, too many things can go wrong.
The free time was worth the decrease in money.
The people that leased it, did so for YEARS. I can only assume they did not lease it and lose money.
Leasing a domain is NOT a dumb idea. Unless leasing a building or an office is a dumb idea.
Depends on what you do with it and what the contract is.

Some good advice here in a short sentence. Buy your own domain forget about leasing one.

I leased one of my domains to a guy 8 or 9 years ago for 3 years, nothing went wrong, he paid me upfront for the whole time.
