[BUSINESS] I want to put all my sites on the one domain
I have this feeling I want to put all my sites on the one domain, as folders and sub-domains. sell off the other 73 domains, some might get me as high as $1000 and save money on renewals and bring in some cash now.
What do you think and what are the pro's and con's of using the one domain.

Pros:
Cheaper.
Counts as more pages if you use folders.
More internal linking?.. :p
Cons:
Type-ins are much less effective.
More work to do.
If you use folders, if the site gets dinged for something in terms of SEO, it'll affect all of them. Subdomains can be separate, though.
Some surfers just ignore subdomain sites (Used to be more important in the past, though..)

I would strongly recommend it. We made the same move many years back
From and SEO standpoint, its far better (and easier to manage) to have one big site than lots of small ones. Get all your backlinks pointing to one domain and your ranking will shoot up
As Mike says subdomains can be treated seperately for SEO but this also means that if you rank for a keyword on a subdomain, it wont neccesarily count towards your main domain. https://www.impactbnd.com/blog/subdomains-vs-subfolders

When I said more work, I meant in terms of having to move everything over to one. After that, though, managing it as one large site is easier than multiples.tacnet wrote: ↑July 7th, 2019, 7:02 pmI would strongly recommend it. We made the same move many years back

Would canonicals work for subdomains?

You mean canonicals on the subdomain pointing to pages/folders on the main domain ??? Interesting idea. Might help with spreading the link juice from the subdomains onto the main domain. Not sure on that one. Google might see it as a canonical pointing from one domain to another and not sure how they feel about that.
Personally i would stick with folders . That way there is no question that google sees all your link backs, pages, internal links etc as one single domain. Plus with all your pages on one domain you will have a lot more for google to get its teeth into. When we first moved to a single domain our indexed pages with google shot up to around 120 - 130k. Think its dropped down a bit now to around 90k but thats still a helll of a lot more than when we had individual sites.
Hope it works for you

I would use 301 redirects on the domains you're moving instead of parking. At least temporarily. If the domain is ssl that can be a little tricky. Once you remove the domain from your hosting ssl is history. Free account at Cloudflare can handle the https issue on the redirects. Anything that has to go on sub instead of folder such as WL etc I would add a line to .htaccess redirecting folder to sub. You don't actually need a folder to do this.
I wouldn't dump them all, just most of them. Having a handful of domains can be helpful for link trades.

The only negative aspect is if that one domain with everything on it gets hit by Google your traffic will decline, apart form that i think it is a good way to build up the one domain and save cash on renewal fees for multiple names.

We have come accross this question many times over the years and In our experience, the positive SEO impact far outweighs any potential negatives.
For example, if you had 10 sites with say 1k hits a day and you put them all together on one site, then your not going to end up with one site with just 10k hits a day. That site is going to have a lot more momentum and carry a lot more weight with goole than the 10 individual sites ever had and probably end up with say 20k hits
If your trying to manage lots of smaller domains then you are really watering down your efforts. Ok google might spot something on your site and penalise you a bit but its really a drop in the ocean compared to how much extra link juice you get by focusing your efforts onto one site
Thats what we found anyway

I may just think about doing this and saving on registration and renew fees. a grand a year saved is worth it to me.Money is money less spent the more you have in the bank.

Not me I sell links on my sites and want more domains with individual IP's to make money.
