question about backup space used on server ???
my hosting company says:
Detailed info of used space for all your current weekly backups:
[root@cp /]# du -sh /backup/weekly/2019-05-19/
31G /backup/weekly/2019-05-19/
[root@cp /]# du -sh /backup/weekly/2019-05-26/
55G /backup/weekly/2019-05-26/
[root@cp /]# du -sh /backup/weekly/2019-06-02
96G /backup/weekly/2019-06-02
[root@cp /]# du -sh /backup/weekly/2019-06-09
92G /backup/weekly/2019-06-09
[root@cp /]# du -sh /backup/weekly/2019-06-16
67G /backup/weekly/2019-06-16
so does that mean i have around 300 gigs of spaced used up for weekly back-ups ?
should i be resolute in deleting weekly backups to clear up more space ?
how often do you delete back-up files ?
thank you

backing up on the same hard drive is not smart, what if it fails.

You can easily set up backup to google drive in cpanel/whm and storage fees are low. If you click on help it'll walk you right thru the process.

Not arguing but is that the best way to backup 500gigs nightly?

Correct, you've got about 341GB in backups.
In my opinion space is cheap these days so err on the side of keeping them, but you're probably keeping more than you need. Backups are fundamentally a risk management thing, so how many you keep (and where you keep them! And how you store them!) should be considered under that lens. If you keep just 1 backup, there's a small chance it could be corrupt or unrestorable the day you need it. If you keep 2-3 weekly backups you're unlikely to run into all of them being corrupt or unrestorable.
Hopefully you're also storing those off site, at least occasionally, to protect yourself from more extreme situations (your server dying, your server getting hacked, your hosting account getting hacked, the hosting company going under, a comet hitting the datacenter, etc.) Except for the comet example, I've seen data loss in all those situations: don't keep all your eggs in one basket.
Once I'm confident that I'll never need it because I have enough more-recent ones.

You can not go wrong with a back up solution at Sharktech.net Bill, have the server backed up there for a year or more, all automatic Just to be clear they were an advertiser before i started and still are so no collusion and full disclosure:)

Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

if you are without raid and have no regular backups you are up shit creek with no paddle if your hard disk fails

You would need about 4.9TB of storage. Does your content update that often? If so, are you able to only back up whatever content changed?

why do you need 7 days copies, 3 days is more than enough for me.
