free trials - Mastercard changes
As of April 30th, 2019, Mastercard is updating their rules regarding merchants offering free trials with a physical product subscription. You are receiving this email because these rules change will impact how you offer free trials with a physical product subscription when accepting Mastercard. We ask that you thoroughly read the rule change in its entirety below.
Mastercard’s official statement regarding this rule change:
"The rule change will require merchants to gain cardholder approval at the conclusion of the trial before they start billing. To help cardholders with that decision, merchants will be required to send the cardholder – either by email or text – the transaction amount, payment date, merchant name along with explicit instructions on how to cancel a trial.
For each payment thereafter, the merchant will have to send a receipt to the cardholder for each transaction by email or text message with clear instructions on how to cancel the service if the consumer so desires. In addition, all charges that appear on the cardholder’s statement must now include the merchant website URL or the phone number of the store where the cardholder made the purchase."
As of April 30th, 2019, ClickBank will be sending out a pre-rebill notification between the initial $0.00 trial and the first rebill which occurs three days before the rebill. This communication notifies the customer of the upcoming rebill, provides details of the subscription, and information on how to request support, including cancellation if the customer prefers to cancel before the rebill.
The default for any product that fits the $0.00 trial with a physical product subscription will be to have this pre-rebill notification sent out by ClickBank. If you, the client, already sends your own pre-rebill notification, ClickBank can review this pre-bill notification and determine if it fulfills the Mastercard requirements, in which case, we can disable our pre-rebill notifications.

I think I saw a thread here a few months ago where it said this was only for tangible goods, I may be mistaken.

I never did more recurring sales with free trials, some sites with no trials at all work out even better for em than ones with 2-3 day trials.

Years ago free trials disappeared for a few years and we made money, if there are no free trials you can still make sales.
