I used WP-Optimize before. It does a hell of a job cleaning. Too good a job! I stopped using it. The plugin wiped out all my auto-updating feeds I had in feedwordpress and I didn't notice right away. By the time i noticed that my blogs no longer updated the last backup that contained the info in the database was replaced already. That sucked! It also deleted all product pages in a store that's fed by a spreadshop plugin. I had to repopulate it. If you use it, do a backup, heed the warnings on the options and check your site afterwards! I uninstalled the damn thing and currently don't use a plugin. I do check my database in PHPMyAdmin after deleting plugins to drop leftover tables. I don't know much about using PHPMyAdmin yet, it's on my to do list or finding another plugin. I'm a little leery on the latter. lol

so after I managed to get my postmeta data under 300K. using several different plugins to removed duplicate posts, revisions and other crap. I used managewp.com to one click optimize the database.

If you are not using managewp.com or a similar service, give them a try. it is mostly free and saves a lot of time.
