if you buy a site and the you pay for it and the seller zips it up send it to you, then you get an email form one of the content companies who sold him the content telling you to remove their content because you do not own the license what would you do.
The sale went fine, I thought when I buy a site I own the domain and design and content, am I missing some thing.

That entirely depends on the contract he made when he bought the content - usually the content is tied to the domain and/or transferable, but not necessarily. If it is tied specifically to the seller and the content firm refuses to transfer the license you cant do much but remove it (or buy a new license from them)

But I paid $350 for the site and the seller never mentioned it. I asked him before sending the paypal if I owned the domain and site for the price he said yes. Half the images of the 900 are form the one source. I feel screwed by this for not knowing what questions I had to ask up front. I do not know who to blame but myself.

Well, it would have been nice for the seller to check/tell you too.
Have you asked him about it? Maybe if he gets in touch with content owner something can be worked out

After I paid him and he sent me the zip file he stopped replying to me. The content company says they will send my host a DMCA notice if I do not take down their content by April 1st, or I have to pay them $299 for a lifetime license for their content right.

You paid $350 now you have 2 choices, take down the infringing content or as Bill said pay the content company the next $299 for the rights. DO NOT leave the content up, if they sold it to him and not the domain you will get fucked for way more.
If the seller is not talking to you he probably pulled a fast one on you but that is how life is, you live and learn.

Tell them both to go fuck themselves without lube or you'll take them to court. See how fast they both change their tune.brt22 wrote: ↑March 30th, 2019, 11:20 amif you buy a site and the you pay for it and the seller zips it up send it to you, then you get an email form one of the content companies who sold him the content telling you to remove their content because you do not own the license what would you do.

often content is sold to original buyer without transfer rights or resell rights
depends on the terms of the purchase contract
there are content provider companies out there who will sue

I know you feel let down but don't mess around with unlicensed content. Get a copy of the license read it. Also reason with the content company see if they will give you a discount, they already made their money selling the content first time to the previous site owner.

Tell the seller to make good on the content or you will take him to small claims court.brt22 wrote: ↑March 30th, 2019, 11:20 amif you buy a site and the you pay for it and the seller zips it up send it to you, then you get an email form one of the content companies who sold him the content telling you to remove their content because you do not own the license what would you do.

I live in LA he's in Lithuania, how do you want me to serve him, the cost of litigation and service will cost 10 times more than the price I paid for the site.
