I did 2 new blogs and after a short while changed the themes, now both have lost their alexa rank, is that the change, the theme or just my bad luck.

The answer is NO.

If you question was can changing my theme hurt my SEO, then YES it certainly can.

Alexa rank is almost not worth talking about. Except so many people think it is important.
I just finished posting that Alexa rank is created using their patented guessometer. There numbers are only accurate for the people that have placed the Alexa script on their sites. Similar to Google Analytics code.

You should not be using Alexa to guess at your rank.
Look at the stats on your server. If you have cpanel you have stats, most likely. These are accurate.

Depends. Making visual changes such as colors for example should not impact SEO as long as your theme remains the same. When you change theme and/or plugins you could impact SEO.

The question is to simple. You must define what "change the look" is.
I can make changes to the look of your site and improve your SEO.
I can also make changes that will hurt your SEO.

I small change of say a line is not important a theme change gets picked up by Big G a s a 'change'.

Sorry koster but a small change can impact your SEO greatly. One line is in fact the most important aspect of your SEO.
