rel=nofollow on iframe?
I have the new chaturbate cams in iframes and google dinged me for mobile because chaturbate doesn't declare a viewport on the page. I'm looking for ways to avoid the ding and I was wondering does rel=nofollow work on iframes?

Nope, from what I have found the rel attribute is not allowed for the iframe element from what i have read up over time.

look at the dates of the articles. Google has updated their alogs and criteria many times since 2013. I messaged a guy who is into iframes waiting to hear what he says. I'll copy paste whatever he says, he knows his shit.

Since rel=nofollow won't work, there are two good techniques that can be done.
The first is using canonicals, but that requires a cross-domain canonical, and in this case that won't work.
There are other techniques that some people might suggest like meta robots nofollow, but that will still have blocked resources show up in Googlebot's render, showing that the nofollow doesn't really work.
So, to fix this issue the best and to speed things up, you can make it an on-demand iframe. So, make a blank html page in something like /frames/frame1.html. Then block the folder in robots.txt:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /frames/
Then use a code generator like https://codegena.com/generator/iframe-code-generator and paste in the iframe url, set it to "Load iFrame on image click", set up the rest of the settings that you want and generate the code. Then it will just be html, css, etc.
This way, there will be something to click to load and play the iframe and Googlebot's render will show no errors and does make a difference with SEO.
(It also helps if you have popunders/ups..) :p
It explains everything better here, I skipped a step..: https://www.searchlaboratory.com/us/201 ... s-for-seo/

I seen that page in my google search, skimmed over it and passed it by. I guess I should have kept reading.Colmike7 wrote: ↑January 4th, 2019, 6:40 pmSince rel=nofollow won't work, there are two good techniques that can be done.

I'm doing a similar thing on some of my sites (livefeeds.xyz is one of them) now loading the cams into a modal with an onclick rel=nofollow link on images. The initial load in the iframe inside the modal is a hidden loader.gif which is replaced by the cam upon click. What I didn't do is write the iframe with javascript into the modal. The initial load into the frame is my gif. What I didn't do is create a frame page in disallowed folder. Looks like I'll be making some changes to several sites! Too bad on demand iframe won't work on ifame ads.

Actually, since my initial load into the frame is my gif and the cams are regular links targeted to the iframe marked nofollow which should work fine on <a href... I shouldn't even have to worry about robots.txt and writing the frame to the doc since google should stop there. The CB sites have the cams embedded on the page instead so I have to do the frame in on demand frame in disallowed folder I guess. It's never simple, is it?

Yep. See colmike7 reply above. That's a solution i can implement for these embedded cams. Too bad its not feasible for iframe ads as well.

There has to be a way to get around this for iframe ads, let me do some Google stuff and get back to it.
