I used to have a firewall but stopped using it last year, I have not had issues with skype with or without one.

Actually the guy was rather rude, he messaged me, I replied , he replied , this is not a skype shutting down issue, I guess he got out the wrong side of the bed, I never knew replying to someone was wrong lol.

I deleted his nick so as not to cause a stir.
