How I Use Data To Get Traffic/Sales From Marketing And Social Media
Lately I had a conversation with a colleague that is putting a lot into marketing and social media but not really getting a lot out of it.
When doing marketing a lot of us will just select some age ranges, and country and target people on facebook or twitter. Its important to use site data, marketing data, and sales data to really get the best bang for the buck.
Im going to assume you do some type of marketing, paid marketing, or social media marketing even if its just posting non paid posts on your chosen social media platform.
First, you should be using UTM codes within your URL structure on every post. UTM's allow you to tag URL's and track where they are coming from.
Example: website.com?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=video-post&utm_campaign=tuesday-12pm&utm_term=keyword-target&utm_content=stepmomvideo
When using the above example I can identify traffic coming in easily.
From that example you can take the following information.
The source is from twitter (this is where we posted the link)
The Medium was video (your link was for a video page)
The campaign was sent out tuesday at 12PM
The Tem is a specific keyword you targeted
The content was for a stepmom video
As traffic comes in you can track these items.
For example you may find Tuesday at 12PM is terrible to post videos, or you may find its great, or maybe its terrible for stepmom niche videos, but great for something else.
The idea here is that once you track this data for a few months you will have a very good idea of what best works in a given time and a given day to post a specific niche.
You can use the same example for product sales.
On site data capture and how it connects.
When you sell items or give free content make sure you capture data. Make your visitors fill out a form to get that exclusive free video, or when buying a product or service. I like to capture a few things (Name, City, Email, Age, Gender)
There are so many ways you can use this data, but a lot of people just let it sit.
Here are some things you can do
- Find what product or video is most popular by age group.
- What product or video is most popular by gender.
- What is most popular by city.
- What age is most popular for a given gender within a city broken down by age brackets.
This is very powerful information, and can help you when creating marketing campaigns because now you can have the power to really select groups of people to market to instead of simply blindly targeting every male on facebook for your new erectile disfunction affiliate product and blogpost.
How to use the two?
Using both of these methods can give you amazing stats.
For example, lets say you target facebook users for your new campaign, and you provide a list of emails you captured by giving away free content on your videos.Facebook actually lets you upload a list of emails to target (see facebook custom audiences).
So in this list you selected to only use males ages (30-45) and its for an erectile disfunction blog post with affiliate offer.
Then you create a new audience for the same offer using ages (46-50).
Using the appropriate UTM's to track both campaigns.
From here you can track which age ranges responded better to your marketing efforts and what times/days converted better.
Here is where it gets really fun
You can track how many times an ad appeared to people.
Lets say in your custom audience you have a guy with the following email, person@gmail.com and the ad appeared to this person a total of 3 times.
Once on Tueday, Again on Wednesday, and Again on Friday, and in your sales report from your website you see that person@gmail.com purchased a video/product on Friday.
This is valuable information, because you can start tracking trends. If you target person@gmail.com you know that historically it took an ad showing 3 times before a purchase. If you track this with a large group, say a list of 50k people within these age brackets then you can get an average number of marketing impressions needed before an individual in an age bracket actually purchases something.
This is just an example of what you can do.
There are so many different ways you can use this type of data.
Now although this is a great way to do things its not going to give you 100% penetration because some people may not use the same email on facebook or similar social media network that they use for purchasing adult products.
This is not meant to be a full guide because there is so much involved but to simply help people understand that there are ways to use the data you capture from sales and memberships and you do not have to just let it sit there in your database.

You probably know more about this than me but I'll stick my neck out and say what I believe, social edit traffic is over rated.

I dont think its overrated but its definitely not as instant or as easy as most make it out to be. Social media platforms are simply search engines with social components, but the search and target capabilities are on par with traditional non social engines like google or duck duck when it comes to paid ads. Social media platforms gives you a way to gain new traffic. I believe organic traffic is still king in our space. But if you do dabble in social media, this thread will help you get the most bang for your buck instead blindly going in to it.
FYI: I use social media as an example here but it can be used with most digital marketing mediums such as email or adult paid ad networks as long as proper tracking is used.

It is all about Google. Let's call it the way it really is.
Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

I agree, google is amazing and provides the best traffic. The method I discuss here in this thread is how you can take that google traffic and further target your audience to upsell, or get them to re-subscribe to your service/product by targeting the right audience on social media and/or e-mail marketing.

Start out with a good domain, build a site around it that relates to the domain name.
