NO cloud, no shared server, no vps server. I want my own individual box no matter if costs me a few dollars more per month.

And I thought I was being smart paying $199 / month for a dedicated server, I am going to look into cloud hosting this coming week.

Would you really know if your account is a dedicated server or cloud?

That to me is the best way to go! the trend I am seeing though is people saying how can you tell the difference... which if you are to compare both dedicated servers and cloud hosting plans side by side, you will notice that cloud host tend to suffer from the same type of network erros as vps, like bottle necks in your upload networks, things you cant really fix because its caused by the use other people are giving to there share of the cloud, just like in a vps not actually hardware issues. Sure you can get more storage in cloud but you cant really get faster storage. Cloud performance really suffers compared with a true dedicated server. back to the telling the difference I agree its hard, but cloud tends to be more expensive than dedicated. lets think about this, if someone were to try and scam you, its more likely they give you a dedicated server tell you its cloud and charge you more than what its worth, not the other way around and sell you a dedicated server and charge you less than what they can get out of the same resources delivered through "cloud"...
bottom line is a dedicated server will more often than not out perform a cloud host. simply due to the fact that its your own machine apart from anything else, private.
And if you really aren't convinced! invest in a server, dell poweredge with Dual Xeon E5430
Quad Core 1tb HDD 32 RAM ready to mount on a rack for 500 bucks and get yourself 1U colo space! over time this will be more cost efficient as 1U colo is less than $100 a month. paying for the same dedicated server will cost you more than $2000 a year and with colo you will be paying about $500 less in the course of 1 year and you will be 100% sure you are using a truly dedicated server. but if that investment isn't and option that same dedicated server will still run you minimum $400 less in 1 years time than the same performance output with a cloud server.
Just because its trendy doesn't mean its good! just look at other trends like planking or selfies!! people died guys people died!! now ill say it myself before someone points it out, no you cant compare hosting trends with selfies or planking, I was just making a funny comment there.
Love you guys!forget the cloud! hit me up ill set you up with a dedicated server you'll thank me later hahaha

Yes you absolutely can tell. With SSH root access, you are correct ma'am. You will be able to tell if you are running in a cloud environment on a cluster somewhere or if you are on a single machine.calista wrote: ↑November 20th, 2018, 2:05 pmWith root access you can figure it out, bestfreeporn wrote: ↑November 16th, 2018, 10:22 amWould you really know if your account is a dedicated server or cloud?

I get your push for Dedicated servers being a hosting company with very affordable server solutions. I have worked with you guys before.. I do have to say if you are looking for a set it and forget it type of set up then these guys are what you are looking for.WhitelabelIT wrote: ↑November 16th, 2018, 11:39 amThat to me is the best way to go! the trend I am seeing though is people saying how can you tell the difference... which if you are to compare both dedicated servers and cloud hosting plans side by side, you will notice that cloud host tend to suffer from the same type of network erros as vps, like bottle necks in your upload networks, things you cant really fix because its caused by the use other people are giving to there share of the cloud, just like in a vps not actually hardware issues. From a technical aspect though... A physical single dedicated server that houses you code, your database, and your media files is a big no no for me.
Cloud services give you so much for a lot less cost.
With a single server you cannot do load balancing, you cannot cross your application throughout multiple regions, and you have a single point of failure.
You will notice that when you use a dedicated server you often have beefy specs like 8-12 cores, 32GB of ram, and 2TB storage. Thats because everything runs on your single server.
With cloud you see specs like 1-4 cores and 1GB to 16GB of ram. You can always go with way more but thats what you usually see. The reason for this is because you dont need those heavy specs when you have the proper architecture.
For example you can do the following
- 2 core 3GB RAM EC2 Cloud Instance running apache to actually serve up your application or website.
- Amazon RDS 1 Core 3GB RAM or less for your Database.
- Amazon s3 for your file storage (unlimited storage)
- LAMDA for heavy processing
- Load balancing.
This set up would be incredibly fast, scalable and reliable.
Lets say your site does not get a lot of traffic (150k< visitors per day) you would need not much else. But let say your site get popular and suddenly you need more resources Well with a dedicated server you will need to up your specs and increase your monthly cost, this means you have to migrate to a new machine. With cloud you do not have to do that, you dont need to do anything because the system will auto scale for you, your site will essentially replicate itself to another cloud instance when needed and then scale back down when not needed. So you only pay for what you use.
I get why people are so fond of dedicated server, but when you look at cloud hosting such as amazon aws there is no doubt why its way better. There is a reason why Netflix, AirBnb, Adobe, Coursera, and even NASA runs a lot of its heavy processing through AWS. Because its fast, efficient, reliable, eliminates single point failure, and is meant for current and future of computing

You might have just convinced me and im the sales rep here! hahahaha
Truth be told it might very well be the future and it might be in use currently as it is! but ill save my finger strength and put it simply, the single point of failure argument, bs... no offense I mean if you dont do things well a dedicated server might just be your single point of failure... but, who in there right mind doesn't have back up, even if you add managed services and daily back ups to a dedicated server for extra fees your pockets will love you for it!! or RAID set up at the very least! My mom always told me, "if it ain't broke dont fix it!" I've made my argument on why Dedicated servers are better, and you said it your self a few time! People Love them, our check book loves them, I love them, we all love them hahahaha
Now if you don't mind me, I just want to let everyone know Host4porn has some crazy sales coming this week, dedicated servers included, don't miss out!
Ps: Thank you very much for your kind comments about our company and services! much appreciated!
Happy Thanksgivings everyone!

A single point of failure is not bs, its a real world problem, having back ups doesnt do you any good if the data center network is down. Even with a backup there would be down time, and as you know, down time is not good at all. Cloud clusters spread cities, states, and countries, if a cluster goes down in Northern California, Im fine, my stuff rolls over to the next available cluster, and I dont have any down time. My data gets saved to 7 separate cloud clusters.WhitelabelIT wrote: ↑November 21st, 2018, 3:42 pmDamm... well played my friend hahahahasebflo wrote: ↑November 20th, 2018, 2:20 pmI get your push for Dedicated servers being a hosting company with very affordable server solutions. Unless something happens to all 7 clusters I wont be having to use my back up any time soon. Nice thing about Cloud is you can usually create daily snapshots and save to a separate secure elastic storage that also gets spread between 7 clusters.
I hear that phrase a lot "if it aint broke dont fix it" .... Ive never been a fan of it, and neither should you, imagine if this truly was the case, we would all be riding horses instead of driving cars, we would all be running adult magazines instead of adult websites lol.. Why? Because that was good enough.. Why change it?
The idea of that phrase means you stay static, it means if it's good enough you no longer need to innovate or improve upon, at least thats how I understand it. Personally thats not in me. I dont think dedicated server are better, and would never go back to them after working with cloud, but I can see why you would think they are better. Change is scary, and cloud is not as easy as paying a company for a dedicated server and launching wordpress on it. But cloud is secure, fast, scalable, and is absolutely where web applications are going.
Companies like yours will be needed for a while, I dont think cloud will take over small sites yet like it has taken over in the enterprise world. Hell your future business model might be cloud administration if its not already instead of housing physical hardware.
