what is the point of an unsubscribe link in emails

Half the time when I get spam I click "Unsubscribe" either the link does not open, the link opens with some code error or they keep spamming me any ways if the shit worked.

It is more intentional than because of some rogue programmer, trust me.I gt the same spam all the time even trying to opt out and emailing the sites in question, once they have you email address they do not give up in most cases.

Well, with most spam blasts you aren't on a list that can be unsubscribed from, just on a list that will probably be sold and used a few times. Unsubscribe links are part of staying legal depending on the country that you're in, but yeah spammers are dicks basically..

Sometimes spammers also use the same domains to send with for the unsubscribe part, and bigger senders burn through a ton of domains, so I guess it's possible that it was sent to you and then non-working by the time you clicked the link because of that..
