Plugins or Responsive web design?

#1

What do you guys prefer when it comes down to the way your websites perform on mobile devices, a responsive website design or just sticking a plugin like Jetpack on it???

Most of the newer themes on WP are responsive and no plugin is required.

I read a little bit about a plugin called jetpack although it really just helps you make a second website a little more optimized for mobile. Another one I have been seeing a lot of is WPtouch this actually takes your existing website and optimizes it on mobile. like I said before I am for sure no expert on this topic though so don't take my word on it.

Why complicate things when you can keep it simple? There are an abundance of responsive themes available. Plugins are great expanding WP but they also can slow things down, cause conflicts and vulnerabilities, need to be updated, etc.

In a recent update to my seo plugin they changed a hook name for no fucking apparent reason. I have a filter added using this hook in a cam plugin that I'm running on three sites. Once I updated the seo plugin my page titles no longer changed on single cam pages. Luckily I noticed it within a couple days and fixed the code.

Whenever I update plugins or themes I try to remember to look at the changelogs and check the site afterwards. Shit happens. If I can achieve the same result without using a plugin I'm a happy camper.

KISS - keep it simple stupid ;)

At this time it will make sense for all WP themes to be responsive by default.

These are assuming the website is on wordpress, im sure there are plugins for other platforms too. I think responsive design is critical and very easy to do now a days with things like bootstrap or jquery mobile, even using media queries is not that hard.

It kills me when I see a membership or tube site that is still not mobile friendly.

The good thing is most modern wordpress and non wordpress templates and frameworks use bootstrap or similar as a base.
