President Trump made a deal with president Putin to buy Russian diesel

President Trump made a deal with president Putin to buy Russian diesel, I think it's a great move by trump to ease the shortage of diesel and hopefully also reduce prices.

"President Donald Trump said on Friday he secured an agreement from Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply markets with Russian diesel fuel as he works to bring down energy costs ahead of the midterm elections.

Energy industry analysts, however, say the agreement — which sparked anger in Ukraine — isn’t likely to lower diesel prices in any meaningful way.

Trump wrote on social media that Putin agreed to “immediately supply” more than 300,000 tons of diesel to global energy markets, with another 500,000 tons promised in November. Together, the amounts — equal to 6 million barrels of diesel fuel — would cover about a day and a half worth of US demand, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Trump said millions more tons of Russian diesel would be supplied following the first tranches “based on the condition of their Diesel
Refineries.”"

In other words, Trump is now actively fueling Russia's war machine.

With respect, this doesn't make any sense. Putin is attacking Trump's allies (ie NATO) and supporting Trump's enemies (ie Iran) and yet Trump decides to fuel his war machine ??

For years, Trump has been telling Europe to stop buying Russian oil and now he steps in and buys millions of tons ??

This is just another nail in NATO's coffin and without NATO, the world is a much more dangerous place

Again with respect, this has nothing to do with lowering the price of diesel. As you posted, 6 million barrels of diesel only covers about a day and a half of American demand so it's a tiny drop in the ocean, especially when compared to the global demand of around 28.7 million barrels per day and remember, diesel prices are set globally. No, Trump is doing this to try and win votes ahead of the mid terms and he thinks the American people are stupid enough to believe that this will bring down the cost of diesel

Just 3 weeks ago, Trump signed the bi-partisan "Lindsey Graham" deal that sanctioned anybody buying Russian oil and almost a year ago to the day, he stood in front of the UN and told Europe they should immediately stop buying Russian oil.

No he's torn all that up, stabbed his NATO allies in the back and prolonged the war in Ukraine....just so he can try and win a few extra votes at home. The ONLY way to lower fuel costs is to stop the war that he started

I see your point, I didn't realize the amount of diesel that Russia will sell is so small compared to the daily consumption across the world.
Are the secondary sanctions on Russian fuel still in effect for the other countries this would make no sense telling other nations you can not buy or facilitate the sale of Russian energy products.

You both miss the main point, any announcement of more diesel being available reduces the tension in the oil markets and leads to lower gas and diesel prices. Prices are based on speculation of futures. This is a good move how ever much diesel will actually come into the country.

The countries that govern the price of oil are not stupid enough to believe that 6 million barrels of diesel will make any difference whatsoever to the global supply. That's around 20% of what the world consumes every day (in other words, about 5 hours worth)

The whole world can see that this is just a ploy so Trump can say he is addressing the affordability crisis (the same crisis that he said was fake and made up by the democrats). And don't forget, Russia has a ban on exporting diesel right now so they don't have the capacity to bail Trump out of the mess he has created

I wonder what Trump would say if, for example, the UK started importing oil from Iran ??? We could get our Prime Minister on the phone with the Ayatollah and strike up a deal to import Iranian oil. Because that's exactly what Trump is doing to us and the rest of NATO

It takes ending the war with Iran and getting the straight of Hormuz open again.

This deal with Russia is just a sideshow. It's simply a way for Trump to say he's addressing the affordability crisis ahead of the mid terms. Give it a week or two and Trump will be claiming that it's Zelensky's fault that gas prices are so high because he keeps attacking Russian oil refineries. Even if this deal does happen (which I very much doubt), it's such a tiny amount that it wont have any effect on gas prices
