How can there be people on food stamps in the US when Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner earned at least $82 million in income last year?

Exactly. Greed, love of power, lack of social responsibility, lack of empathy, moral values, etc. SA... US... same difference. It boils down to who has the power and controls the money.

My math is not great but 40 million of 325 million on food stamps and it's not exactly easy to say there are not more people struggling to eat everyday, that is seriously bad for our country. If you take all the people living on minimum wage which is not enough to live a decent unpretentious life by any means, it is probably double that n umber.
And corporations make billions and executives make millions every year, this is so sad.

Yep. Couldn't agree more. And it's not just food. It's other essentials such as medical care. I'm not against capitalism but that's what you end up with when all that matters is the bottom line. Shit has been going steadily downhill for the working folks ever since the early Reagan years. The 80's where a time of leveraged buyouts, union busting, pump and dump, 401k in lieu of retirement, etc. There used to be more of a partnership and more trust between companies and their employees. Trusting your employer (with rare exceptions) nowadays is a fools errand.camcutie wrote: ↑September 19th, 2018, 2:55 pmMy math is not great but 40 million of 325 million on food stamps and it's not exactly easy to say there are not more people struggling to eat everyday, that is seriously bad for our country. Reagan was before my time I was born in 1996.
All I know is every Repoublican candidate and president has tried to emulate his ideas since I have been old enough to follow politics.

Oh lord... I have articles of clothing that are older than you... lol. I'm not a history buff (far from it), but I always believed it's a good idea to at least get the big picture of what got us to where we are today. It's one way you can prevent repeating it. Learn from the mistakes and then go vote, speak out, whatever.

My understanding is Reagan was the best president in the last 50 years , he brought about the collapse of the soviet union and brought back American pride after Carter by getting the release of the American hostages in iran.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑September 19th, 2018, 3:27 pmOh lord... Everything has 2 sides and there's always shades of grey. The USSR didn't just collapse because of Reagan and the hostages were released as soon as Reagan took office. Not because of anything that he did to secure their release. Iran used to be an ally back in the days when we propped up the previous regime that fled to exile. Look further back, behind the curtains and draw your own conclusions. Think for yourself, don't take the sound bites at face value. There's always a reason why things happen. Might not be a good reason, but reason none the less.camcutie wrote: ↑September 19th, 2018, 4:50 pmMy understanding is Reagan was the best president in the last 50 years , he brought about the collapse of the soviet union and brought back American pride after Carter by getting the release of the American hostages in iran.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑September 19th, 2018, 3:27 pmOh lord... I'm not saying anything against Reagan, just saying nothing is all good or all bad. All we can do is try to ensure the good outweighs the bad.
