There is too much money to be made with artificial intelligence to be shut down or slowed down.

Trump's idea of "self policing" simply wont work. For the same reason we don't allow aircraft manufacturers to self police when there's a crash, or pharmaceutical companies to self police or even food manufacturers. They all have separate governing bodies that make sure none of them cut corners
This is what the tech CEO's are asking for and the fact that Trump can't see that is alarming

Watched a really interesting documentary on this recently featuring the former CEO of google where he gave an off the cuff and fully plausible example of how AI could wipe us all out. Its a term called "Specification Gaming" when an artificial intelligence satisfies the literal wording of an objective by finding an unintended shortcut, rather than solving the problem the way humans intended
For example, let's say we asked AI to solve climate change. Well one way to do that would be to would be to wipe out a good portion of the human population. Problem solved. It might not be able to launch nuclear weapons or create a deadly virus but it could, perhaps, start a war. Pitching two nuclear armed countries against each other in the hope that it will wipe out millions of people. Either way, you've got an AI super intelligence trying to figure out a way of wiping out millions, perhaps billions of people simply to solve climate change
Google has published a list of hundreds of examples of specification gaming where AI has done something we didn't intend it to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/ ... html?pli=1
Scary stuff

It's normal for some to over react when there is new technology, I do not see AI wiping out humanity.

"AI is less regulated than milk, says Microsoft president"
"Milk and washing machines are currently more regulated than AI, the president of Microsoft has said.
Brad Smith said there needed to be global safety rules in place, including a legal obligation to tell a "victim" if their system is breached by a rogue AI agent as well as deciding when outside evaluators should sign off on an AI product before it is released.
His comments put him at odds with President Donald Trump, who said the sector should regulate itself so US firms don't lose out to Chinese rivals.
But Smith said: "Right now, your washing machine is subject to more safety rules than AI. Every carton of milk that you see in the grocery store is subject to safety rules and inspection."
Demands for laws and rules to control AI have grown after experts in the sector said they believed the technology is a threat to humanity.
The bosses of the US-based AI giants such as Anthropic, OpenAI and Google DeepMind have all backed the idea of an AI development slowdown, but Trump has pushed against this.
Speaking to the BBC's Big Boss Interview podcast, Smith called AI both a "tool and a weapon" that urgently needed to be regulated.
"Let's get started today," he said."

By the time people realize the significance of what people are saying today it will be beyond repair.
