Thats right, and as a host we wish there were more people like you out there, you are very knowledgeable of what makes things tick as you say. Reality is that there is very few people like that out there, so when people reach out for help initial instinct is to ask the basics. specially on livechat. Support tickets can be a hassle but a lot of the time you will get better support services through a support ticket. At least here at Host4Porn we try to answer tickets within a few minutes, and if its an urgent problem its almost like being on livechat with the speed of the replies. I speak for Host4Porn though. I know that is a very flawed system in many other Host.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑September 18th, 2018, 6:51 pmSpot on. Going to the host with problems is usually my last resort. I find it to be beneficial to know what makes things tick and there's an abundance of resources out there. Plus I'm too cheap to spring for manged services. lol. I get frustrated (very frustrated) when healing with the host. Obviously when I contact them I'm already aggravated with the problem at hand and my inability to fix it. So when I get on live chat (my preference) and get someone asking basic questions, going thru obvious steps, hoops, etc and I have to repeat myself to get them to comprehend it's hard to keep my cool. It's not the poor saps fault that happened to be unlucky enough to catch my call and I usually make sure I thank them, wish them a wonderful rest of the day and apologize if I feel that's in order.WhitelabelIT wrote: ↑September 18th, 2018, 10:45 amthat is understandable, but there are resources to read up on. if you are not paying managed services, you really shouldn't expect the host to work magic for you. Although a good host will do there best to help out regardless.chilli.domains wrote: ↑September 15th, 2018, 7:49 pmwhitelabelIT your reply is spot on as a host but not all newbs know the in and outs of cpanel, just saying.

Pre configured packages that include the proper setup of the Domain, DNS, SSl, email, newsletter, anti spam, anti hack, etc are not really features, but should be included with each basic package.WhitelabelIT wrote: ↑August 27th, 2018, 11:20 amThe question is pretty straight forward. What do you look for in a webhosting company. in essence what features are most important to you guys to make you want to stay or go with a certain host?
Uptime is something you assume is included. It is NOT a feature.
If you assume the webhosting company has all the hosting stuff down (no pun), then the most important 'feature' would be 'Support'.
Support that can say 'yes we can' even if there is a $5 or $25 fee or more, if the task requires it.
Managed server is great at many hosting providers and the support seems to be a notch above, but these still seem to be limited.
To many hosting companies / support staff expect you to know to much about their job.
A ticket system with hours between replies is not acceptable. Support people reading a script or asking the person in the cubical next to them is not acceptable.
I don't want to operate a server, debug a server, or contact support so they can say they see no problem 'is there anything else we can do for you today?'
The last hosting company I tried, the support person kept changing, was not reading the thread before responding (common for support), never seemed to get a grasp of what I was attempting to do and finally the main reason I canceled was due to the hours between responses that caused my project to explode into weeks instead of hours.
When I am still learning or refreshing my memory on what needs to be done, I do not need to also train support staff.
Number one feature (not managed services either)
Support staff that can actually help with every aspect of hosting. From debugging bad plugins to server email configuration. Doing this in a timely manner (live) would be great.
and Uptime!

Wow, you said it all pretty well. That seems to be the pattern for success in this part of the industry, Good plans with reasonable prices, excellent support and uptime (not a feature).gotonudecom wrote: ↑September 28th, 2018, 2:45 pmPre configured packages that include the proper setup of the Domain, DNS, SSl, email, newsletter, anti spam, anti hack, etc are not really features, but should be included with each basic package.WhitelabelIT wrote: ↑August 27th, 2018, 11:20 amThe question is pretty straight forward.
