Is AI going top kill us all?

Is AI going top kill us all?

"A researcher at a big-time A.I. safety and research company says he's quitting the biz because the industry is rushing to build systems that will spin out of control and destroy humanity ... and he says the people building A.I. "earnestly believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade."

Jacob Coxon quit his job as a researcher at Anthropic, where his specialty was training new A.I. models that consume vast amounts of data ... and he's sounding the alarm on his way out the door.

Coxon told the Wall Street Journal he decided to leave the company because he believes the AI systems he worked with will one day run amok and wipe out civilization."

Is the plan to let loose AI and then create a new world order?

That works but too much money in AI to stop it now

"NEW YORK (AP) — The CEO of Anthropic said Saturday the artificial-intelligence industry should slow its fast-moving development to give safety measures time to catch up. Without such a slowdown, Dario Amodei warned that within six to 12 months, AI could be capable of leading a swarm of agents that could take over the entire internet."

"Ex-Google DeepMind researcher adds to warnings that AI could 'kill all humans'
By Reuters
September 15, 20261:16 AM EDTUpdated 3 hours ago
Sept 15 (Reuters) - A former Google DeepMind employee on Monday became the latest AI researcher to warn that the technology could "kill all humans", saying time could be running out to avoid the outcome.
Public alarm about the ‌potential danger posed by AI is growing, after Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon said last week he had resigned, in part because the "people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade."

Anthropic scientist Evan Hubinger then responded to Coxon's comments, saying he was correct and that he believed there was a greater than 10% chance that AI could kill all humans within the next decade.
"I recently resigned from Google DeepMind, where I worked on AGI safety and alignment research," Bilal Chughtai wrote on X. "I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all, and that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome."
Chughtai, who co-authored research papers while at Google DeepMind, worked there as a research engineer ‌and left the company in July 2026, according to his LinkedIn profile."

This made me laugh. Self regulation is too funny. Let the fox guard the chickens never works.

"Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang says there's no need for new laws on AI - instead AI companies should "simply not release anything that they are not confident will be safe"

He's one of several AI bosses speaking at a conference in California. Anthropic's boss says it is tempting to "attack" competitors but it is more responsible to try and establish industry-wide standards

Meanwhile, Senator Bernie Sanders calls on the US to work with China on AI regulation, saying a treaty should be established to pause development on "AI superintelligence"

His remarks were made at a summit in Washington, where Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser, called AI the "defining issue of our time" - their joint appearance is a rare show of bipartisanship, writes our Washington correspondent

It comes after an Anthropic executive told the BBC that AI is getting more powerful "by the day" and a kill switch should be mandatory

Earlier this week, Donald Trump downplayed AI concerns, saying claims that it will take over the world are a "hoax" "

Now you've got Elon Musk, Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei all calling for government regulations. That says something when the CEOs of these companies are saying we should slow down

The "Hugging Face" incident a couple of months ago really makes you think. If you haven't heard of it, Hugging Face is a well known repository/marketplace for AI software. Back in July, OpenAI was testing a bunch of AI agents in a 'sandbox' that was totally cut off from the internet. The agents were given a problem to solve (hacking into a piece of software) and told that they could NOT communicate with each other.

Several days later, Hugging Face reported that it was under attack. It turns out the AI had managed to break out of the sandbox, get online, use a forum to communicate with each other and then collectively decided that the one place that would have the answers to the test it was working on was Hugging Face. From there it devised an attack to break into Hugging Face and steal the answer key.......all without any human intervention whatsoever !!. In fact, OpenAI didn't even know the agent had got out until Hugging Face reported it.

It's not that the AI had gone rogue, it's that the instructions given to it weren't specific enough to tell it what NOT to do

Now imagine if that had attacked say the banking system, or the electrical grid etc ? That's why we need regulations. We want AI to solve problems but not blow up the world in doing so. Unfortunately AI doesn't know the difference

I think when most people hear that AI is a threat to humanity, they imagine terminator robots rampaging through our streets and laugh it off as some huge joke. Must admit, I kinda leaned that way at first

But this guy from CBC News explains the problem in plain English and he describes what happened with the recent hugging face incident. Its only a 13minute video and it certainly changed my mind anyway r6d10k
