The EU is not messing around when it comes to social media sites.

"The European Commission said on Monday that US-based platforms ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox will now face stricter data protection rules after passing a key user threshold.
Now that all three have over 45 million average monthly users in the European Union, they are now obliged to assess and mitigate potential risks related to illegal content, protection of minors, and users' mental health.
The Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into effect across the bloc in February, has already been applied to companies such as TikTok and Meta."

Some one has to put some checks and balances on major sites, you can not have a handful of sites doing that they want without some over sight.
