sponsorchat.com is the site I used to identify that number of bots/AI etc.

The robots.txt provided by cloudflare is blocking a lot of bots/AIs. thus providing me a list of bots and AIs to test.

I will add more as I learn about them.

I am blocking every bot out there because of the attacks on the site, a lot of the time I am having to activate the Cloudflare "Under attack" feature. It's been stable since around 3pm yesterday afternoon so it's off right now. I will work on the "good bots" but for now I'm just trying to keep the board up and running fast. Even before Cloudflare we had blocked a lot of bots and IP's. The only 2 I see in the phpBB admin stats that are on the board 24/7 are Google and Bing, the rest we seem to have blocked even before Cloudflare.

I started this after a client and friend since from 1997 contacted me. His wife told him that if she had married ME, that her and I would be living on a tropical beach somewhere by now. then told him to get me working on their sites again. I helped him find a programmer and that person was really inexpensive, so he started doing most everything with that guy.
not to go into great detail, for time reference, when Obama was president and it was just starting to get popularly heard that he was having people deleted from google, for time reference. this client thought Obama/Google deleted him from Google.
I offered time and time again to take a look and fix it.
He just bitched about Obama and Google and would not even entertain my ideas. Everyone else was telling him what he wanted to here and he was accepting the cause of his site vanishing from google.

BTW the site was pulling in over $220k per year in sales with a markup of around 60% average.
he is now has sales of less than $20k per year.
Obama time frame to today.. carry the zero multiple by X.
he lost over $2 MILLION in sales over the past just ten years not taking into account return visitor sales etc that he lost.

the point.

he hired me again. In the first hour of looking at through his site to determine WTF, connecting google Search Console and using the URL inspection tool.

guess what, this new programmer blocked google in the htaccess file.
He lost millions because some ass hats thought blocking all bots from the site would solve a NON related issue.

I also found that the programmer blocked all gmail addresses that contained a number or a hyphen.
If your email is gmail with a number of hyphen you can not make a purchase on this site. Well you can now.

WTF!

That is just the start of issues I found.

751 products on the site.
I ran word counts on all 751 descriptions:
•21 products have zero description text at all
•527 of 751 (70%) have 20 words or fewer
•Only 116 products have anything resembling real copy (41+ words)

the description that is 20 words or less.
is the bad product title repeated in the description with the dimensions of the product. WTF!

the 116 products with 41 or more words are not much better.

Literally he uploaded the product image, named the product, kinda. copied the name to the description and typed in the dimensions of the product and was making over $200k per year in sales, about $100k in easy margin.
then instead of contacting the person that helped him get to this stage, he had over 40 sites at the time. this was his first effort without my assistance. His total sales volume for all sites we almost $2 million. this story is about this one site where he hired someone else to do the work on the cheap.

instead of contacting me to help him with his issue, he asked a programmer.
Asking a programmer about this type of thing is like asking a plumber to do electric work.

Sure they can run some wires and maybe use the tools, but do they really know electric work. Well obviously in this story they do not.

Anyway. I have another client in Australia that needs all the help she can get. She is a bra wearing feminist, liberal, that lives off her capitalistic business.

The number of clients she finds us that have similar issues.

One client when you added a product to the cart you could check out. ONE product.
if you could figure out how to get back to the products and added another, the first one would vanish.
You literally could not leave the shopping cart or it was emptied.
Bet you can not guess how easy it was to make her site profitable.
she hired six people before me and they all missed it. charged her thousands for graphics and textual content like that was the problem with low sales.

Another lady's highest sales month for the past year was $171.
She hired my partner in Australia to fix it.

The navigation/flow was so bad you could not get from product to product without using the back button on browser or returning to the home page or using the header navigation.

The header read like the navigation was straight out of the box. home - about - contact - blog. See my point. about contact blog go in the footer not the header.

I designed and implemented a navigation strategy. within 4 months the site was generating over $25k in sales.
of course no one had created a sitemap and submitted it to anyone. I theorize that because the navigation was so poorly build that the crawlers just were not crawling.
within days of submitting the sitemap the traffic spiked. then started a steady growth of visitors and sales.

Your blocking bots that are NOT attacking you site.
THis is exactly why I built this tool.
To help TheButcher determine which bots are good bots and which need to be blocked.

There is some bot asses in Singapore that are bounding several of my sites, too.
Bikker did something to improve caching and then put a throttle on sites connecting to many times and to quickly.

This slowed the bots down, while we determine WTF they are doing and why.

The first and most critical step is to determine if you are dealing with Ghost Traffic or Real Server Hits.

Are bots aggressively loading your actual pages, which can drain server resources and tank site speed.

blanket blocking kills legitimate automated supply chains, partner API calls, and beneficial indexers. Identifying the actor, understanding their intent, and establishing granular programmatic control is the precise engineering framework required

I just tested sponsorchat.com again but now the "Under attack" mode is active so it might be the reason a lot of bots show blocked on your test site. If I turn off the feature the 1900 odd bots at a time will crash the server.These bots just come in a big way all at once and seem to be a follow the leader type thing.

I Know now, seems the server was timing out scanning your site.
I do see your report in the admin area.
so it almost completed but did not show you the results.

Seems your site is slow to respond to my servers requests. LOL!

I am reviewing how I am scanning to see what is taking so long.


I cleaned up the code a bit as I was requesting the sitemap twice.. no need to do that.

Now the scan just stops after 20 seconds, until I can increase the scan time allowed by the server.
and clean up some other things in the scanning.
I do not want to hit your server hard.

will let you know when it works 100% for you.

you can go test now and see what error handling I have added in. FYI, it is not that your site is slow, it is that my scan times out because your site is larger than most I have tested> or a bit of both.
