Get a dog or a cat. Way cheaper.

We have one of each but I don't let them on the bed. They do sleep in the room on the floor quite often but I don't want them on the bed. On the sofa with me is one thing but not while I am trying to sleep, cal me weird.

I had one of each as well. The cat past away 3 or 4 weeks ago. Couldn't keep him off the bed if I tried. The dog is a little over 2 yo now and a spoiled brat. She weaseled her way on to the couch some time ago and since the cat passed she started to insist on getting on the bad instead of the floor in the bedroom. It's been a battle, I'm getting too old for this crap. Lately I've just threw up my hands... giving up. lol

There's been studies done showing health benefits from owning pets such as lowering blood pressure.

I have heard this all the time and agree. What better way to release stress than take your dog for a walk or pet your cat. My deal with the kids was when our dog died was I'll get another one, not form a pet store, but the kennel, as long as they take turns to take her for a walk. Guess what when kids find the opposite sex and studies they forget everything the said. I do the walkies and enjoy my 20 minutes out the house 3 times a day.

We're in the country on 5 acres. About an acre of it is secured by electric fence. Exercise I get is open the door to let her out, maybe hit a tennis ball with the racket. She is a lab golden mix we got at 6 wks old off Craigslist. She weighed in at 70 lbs 2 or 3 month ago at her checkup and she still has a lot of puppy in her. I hope she'll be more of a grown up by age 3. I hope... lol

The fence is buried just below the surface in the yard. There's a new type available as well that does it by (radio?) signal but the range it covers is smaller than we wanted. The dog wears a collar when out. If she gets too close there's an auditory warning, a beep. If she keeps going she gets shocked. Level of shock is adjustable so you just use the amount of juice needed to restrain the dog. Lexi is a smart girl, was trained in no time and haven't had any issues. Some breeds are stubborn will grind their teeth and bully thru regardless. Mastiffs for example have been known to disregard the fence. It may sound cruel but it's effective. It gives her freedom and keeps her safe. It also prevents her from possibly running in to traffic (I'm by a semi busy road) getting hurt, causing a wreck, getting us sued, etc.

So if a human wanders there by accident and touches the fence they won;t get the shock?

There are other electric fences you can buy that'll shock anything getting near. Our neighbors have one around their garden to keep the deer out. Trust me, no matter how good the tomato looks on the vine, you want no part of it. lol

I wouldn't want to do this for any price but never say never. I would have to be in dire straights.
