FIFA may sell a stake in the World Cup

#1

More advertising and sponsorhip is what I see happening,How about pregame shows, half time shows, post game shows.

"EU sports chief Glenn Micallef on Wednesday hit out at FIFA’s plans to sell a stake in its competitions including the World Cup, warning international football’s governing body: “Hands off our game.”

FIFA plans to sell a stake in the business operations of the World Cup and its other competitions through the creation of a semi-private subsidiary.

Micallef said the proposals also raise “important competition law considerations”, noting that the top EU court recognises that sporting rules are subject to the bloc’s law “where they produce economic effects”.

Therefore, the EU executive will study the plans “carefully” within the scope of its competences, he added."

It only makes sense to try make money from the World Cup.

I took a smoking break during every hydration break and half time when watching these past games.

That's an interesting point. In the world's biggest sporting event, the rules of the game can make a massive difference to a countries economy. Take Cape Verde for example. Nobody had ever heard of them before the world cup but their performance in the tournament has led to a massive boom in their tourism industry. Trump getting USA's red card overturned could have had a MASSIVE economic impact had the USA gone on to win.

Are we getting closer to a point where a referees decision on the pitch could end up being legally challenged in the courts ???

Ive just seen that UEFA (European football's governing body) is talking about a world cup boycott over this

Of the six confederations that make up FIFA (North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceanic), European is by far the biggest. You simply couldn't have a world cup without them

Just now on the BBC website.

You pull those countries out you might as well kiss the World Cup good bye, some of the biggest and best teams are European.

"All 55 Uefa countries have voted to support a World Cup boycott in protest against Fifa's proposed deal to sell stakes to private investment, a source has told BBC Sport."

What is Infanto thinking ??? FIFA is supposed to be a nonprofit organization and this just looks like he's trying to cash in on the success of the 2026 world cup. He's even offered to pay member countries $40 million if they accept his plans before 19th September

I'll bet this was Trump's idea

I knew it. Ive just seen on the news that this whole plan is being bank rolled by Joshua Kushner (brother of Jared Kushner) and his investment firm Thrive Capitol

This has got Trump's corrupt hands all over it

Sports is very big business, they just can not get enough money to make them happy. They want more ways to cash in on it.

Plan is cancelled

"July 31 (Reuters) - FIFA's plan to sell a piece of its business empire to outside investors has collapsed following an open revolt by soccer officials worldwide and a major rift among top FIFA executives, the New ‌York Post reported on Friday.
The deal, in which FIFA had aimed to raise up to $4.2 billion by selling a roughly 20% stake in the group, valuing the new arm at $20 billion, is no longer active, the report said, citing four sources familiar with the matter."

Will Infanto keep his job ???

Just prior to the world cup final, 200 of the 211 FIFA members had confirmed they would approve Infanto for FIFA's top job at the next election in March 2027. Now it seems that support has collapsed

Its yet another example of corruption involving Trump and his family that we are all expected to forget about and move onto the next thing

If he was willing to go along with it, why get rid of him. Just saying not sure if he was going for the idea. But generally speaking if you have influence over anyone why replace them, let him stay, wait for another moment to do the same thing when the attention dies down. You might replace a person you can control with someone who is less inclined to do what he is told.

Don't quite follow. It was Infantino's idea ?? The fact that he announced it without any consultation with anybody (except Trump and his family) is what really pissed people off. Even his number 2 resigned in protest

Now UEFA and other members are looking round for someone to replace him but, either way, it won't happen until March

Not saying it was Infantino's idea or if he was part of any plan, speaking in general terms. If you can control the actions of a person why let them go.

FIFA may sell a stake in the World Cup
