I finally got to sleep around 1am, 42 hours after getting up. I ran out of steam... lol. Took todays dose a few hours ago and I'm not zooming near as bad today. Thank goodness. Breathing still sucks

Underlying issue here is the damn steroids the doc temporarily put me on to get severe (her word) COPD under control. There's other concerns with my lung that came to light in x-ray and need to be investigated. Waiting on an appt for CT scan now and it will go from there I guess.nudelinks wrote: ↑September 15th, 2018, 3:35 pmwhat is the underlying issue here. Insomnia?

And here it comes.... lol
Yep. Sitting on the porch enjoying a Pall Mall as I'm typing this. No smokers hack, breathing the same when I smoke or I don't. At this point I'm puffing away until I know what the CT scan and any possible subsequent tests reveal. If it's cancerous I'll quit because response to treatment should be better. If this turns out to be a scare I probably quit to help keep the COPD in check. For right now while in limbo I'm enjoying my smokes. It's stressful enough and I'm not piling on top of it

As a smoker not going to say what every one tells me to do. My grandpa has emphysema for 7 years, he preaches to me to stop but it's hard. I already stopped doing the other stuff and was just asking because the chemicals they put in cigarettes does make us addicts and sick. I have been looking into getting chantix from my doc to quit. Just because I do not want to be hauling around an oxygen cylinder like my grandpa when i get to his age. Have you researched chantix?

yep. It's an anti depressant off label subscribed because it helps to reduce the urge to smoke. Anti depressants have all kinds of nasty side effects. Excessive sweating, moodiness, paranoia, suicidal tendencies, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, etc. All the good stuff! I have a poor track record when it comes to meds. More often than not I get more than my share of side effects and sometimes some extra that's not even listed. I'm not overly eager to use chantix. I probably go cold turkey, smoke one here and there maybe at the beginning to satisfy the physical need or use patches and gum until it subsides. If I can't pull it off I might cave in and try chantix. It's mind over matter.nudelinks wrote: ↑September 15th, 2018, 4:05 pmAs a smoker not going to say what every one tells me to do. Cold turkey lasted 17 days for me until my then girlfriend kept telling me she felt bad smoking when we went out, then I did the patch she gave me the same guilt trip after 3 weeks. She's long gone and I still smoke.Hope you do not give in to peer pressure heidihoe and ride it out if you decide.

They prescribe antidepressants to stop smoking. Aren't they addictive, so why risk it.

Never heard of addictive problems on anti-depressives. They alter brain chemistry, usually take a while to show benefits, correct dosage can be tricky, undesired side effects some even after stopping use, you can't stop taking them cold turkey you need to taper off.pussylover wrote: ↑September 16th, 2018, 8:56 amThey prescribe antidepressants to stop smoking. I never heard of anyone addicted to them. If you need them they can be a life saver but if you don't I can't see what would attract anyone to abuse them.

Unless you're clumping in other mood altering drugs such as valium, adderall and other ADHD drugs. Yeah... they do get abused.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑September 16th, 2018, 11:45 amI never heard of anyone addicted to them. If prescribed any of those my decision would be to avoid them
Stop looking for reps if they don't care why waste your time and traffic at their program, fuck that.

Same here. I am partial to Valium. I've used them periodically over the years. Some recreational use in my teens, temporarily to deal with pain from permanent back damage after a car wreck in 1990's, when going to the scary dentist a few times in recent years. They make me very happy but also render me incapable of completing even the most simplest tasks. So I guess I'm lucky, can't give in to that temptation
